you do know that a lot of FFXI mobs come from FF games so it's normal to see them in FFXIV and future FF games right?
I think if someone wants just solo content, he have a great number of choices in offline games. Excluding XI and XIV, all other FF titles are offline, and are simply great!
MMO and solo don't match very well, imho.

Solo content is an important part of MMO's, I play weird times, there's not always a group available, it's nice to have something to do when others in my FC aren't on, getting a good MMO is a balance between good group and good solo content.
I would prefer to see the jobs doing their...jobs.
Paladin: taking orders from the sultansworn to protect/escort transports/people
Black mage: helping the guild with closing down void portals and killing off the voidspawns that got through
White mage: travelling to conflict areas to heal the wounded or helping soldiers survive through battle
Bards: travelling tavern to tavern to sing appropriate songs, supporting soldiers in battle (only the soldiers can win the battle for you and they need certain songs to keep going)
Monk: Uhh...train in various places, punch rocks, meditate under waterfall, kick trees, bully random garleans...stuff.
And other stuff for remaining jobs. For rewards, how about making it part the AF2 quest line, along with having to do grouped objectives. Like collect enough marks (from completing these) to get "paragon of _job_ excellence" and then do boss fights to get the armor pieces.
Yes, I understand that. All the main quest line is solo for a good part, anyway. Maybe problem comes when you want do something while you wait in DF, it happened to me a lot of times, when on DPS role. Cannot level my chocobo because that kicks me out the DF (I had read it will change on 2.2), tribe quests takes something like 10min, rest of the time is just hope the DF pops up.
You can still go running FATEs around. The best is anyway, have friends and run dungeons with full party.
A timed, ever-changing solo labyrinth with Tonberry stalkers hiding in random corners. find your way to the middle to kill the boss guarding a chest. I'd love to do something like while waiting for DF to swoop me up.
I think there should be Solo content like smuggling.
I like the idea. Rewards could also be things like class specific minions, or even mounts.
I also like Gardes her idea of having the different classes/jobs doing their actual job. Involve the guilds again to send you on quests.
I agree with the idea as well.. but also I would personally like to see solo content/trials ( or at the very most 2 man ) that once cleared gives you the ability to raise your base stats, and you get to choose which stat to increase upon completion, or choose the trial that will give you the stats you're looking for ... you go see the sage of your class or something and he/she will guide you on how you can increase your mind to heal better, or your strength to destroy your enemies faster... **and this goes really for any stat.. ACC, CRIT, spellSpeed, skillSpeed, DET...etc..**
...by no means should it be easy, in fact it should be super hard but not impossible to beat ...or it could start off kind of easy then get harder and harder as you take on more trials/quests....
and how cool would it be that when you clear it you can add another +3 mind to your base stat?... or +3 Vit ... ( I'm just throwing numbers out there, it could be more like +5 ) I feel like this will allow players to truly feel like they've accomplish something ON THEIR OWN... no one can never assume that you were carried through or that you bought your win. .... then you can work on going to the next level, getting stronger/smarter, and so on and so on...etc...etc...
perhaps SE can create a new slot for a "trialStone" that will hold all your acquired stats as you get them...

I'm all for this idea. The more alternatives the better.
It can be fun having some optional hard solo challenges that make you play your job to the fullest without having someone else to help. I still remember the Gatekeeper fight on TSW and how it was fun and also very useful to make players learn to maximize their role and some fight mechanics. I'm not saying that this should be the same and limit it to just a single encounter, but that the idea might be good and it could be done.
Also, and to add something else, I've always wanted to see the ul'dahn arena being opened to players, allowing us to partake in challenges similar to the ones on the Coliseums in other FF titlesThey can even add a group version of it, too. I might be mistaken, but wasn't it discussed some time ago by the devs?
