People should instead be willing to donate that money to sick, hungry or homeless. I'm saying runing subscription model and then cash shop at the same time is unethical. People really want to pay rl money for Fantasia? Forward all proceeds from them to UNICEF.
Who are you to say these people don't give to charities already? I give heavily to charity, and I have also posted about a dozen times in the Fantasia thread. It's quite possible to donate to charity and still have a couple bucks left for an item we DON"T HAVE TO BUY. That Fantasia thread (and probably others like it on the other forums), is the only reason they are even offering Fantasia's again. There's literally hundreds of people, myself included, who told SE they'd be willing to pay for it if it meant we could get more. They're giving us what we asked for.
You don't have to buy housing either. Or glamour prisms. Why don't they cost RL money too to unlock then? I'd rather pay 10$ for a big house for example instead if slaving out for 100M gil.Who are you to say these people don't give to charities already? You sound like SE is doing us any favour but allowing us throw RL money at them. When we already pay monthly. You don't realize it? You already paid enough (in my opinion, of course) in monthly subs for the past six months to receive a bottle of Fantasia straight into your Moogle Letterbox. And if six month worth of subs is not enough, I'm sure quite of few people have just resubbed for another three or six months. And what we get for that? 50 lousy free teleport tickets? 20k gil worth? I'd like to see Fantasia in the basket right next to them. And means to buy it in game, earning it throught game play.
Do I demand too much from SE? They don't have to put any development time into providing the item. It's already in game, all the effort they need to do is make a HTML page with a PayPal button. And they want to charge extra money for that?
In my eyes, SE is in fact doing me a favour. I told them I would be willing to pay for one if that's what it takes, and they gave me exactly what I asked for. Originally they had no plans to offer more Fantasia's. Because of that thread, and as I mentioned, the hundreds (maybe thousands) of people who said they wanted more and would be willing to pay, we are now getting the option for more. They're running a business. If a TON of your consumers are telling you they would be willing to pay for something new, they'd be stupid not to exploit that wish.
=_= Hold up. You're mad because instead of grinding like crazy to get one item, you have to pay real money and would rather pay real money than grind like crazy for another. Rrrriiiigggghhht.
While I actually "don't" like this idea either where is it defined that them charging for this is "unethical", it isn't required to progress in the game and you don't have to buy it.
I wont be buying any probably, vote your displeasure by not buying any either.
to the TC: The fact that fantasia isn't already readily available is part of an insidious experiment of exploitation of the anti-social behavior associated with individuals participating in this study. (FF14)
Based on this message board's current statistics, The majority of naive participants are in favor of this exploit on their lack of patients and extravagant consumerism.
The company "Square Enix" is currently debating involving their business/IP in this slippery slope of micro-transaction taking heed to possible backlash from sources outside it's current fan base.
This doesn't look appealing to those not already dedicated to the project, and might turn away possible future participants. This study exposes the willingness players have to pay for the simplest of features that could easily be added and future features that may be meticulously left out and charged for later. The test subject's current logic is based off of their need to "achieve" at any cost they deem reasonable.

lol this has to be one of the best duck and weave jobs I have ever seen at politely "eviscerating" a company decision, have you ever considered a career in politics?, retail car sales maybe?, lol.^^
Let players have their cake and eat it too
Alchemist potions suck, especially compared to food (30s vs. 1800s duration), But what if Alchemists could make Fantasia Potions.. They are potions right?
I came up with a solution while staring at that lonely Behemoth Horn in my inventory and dreaming of that Super Armor you get from the Odin fate.
What if the ingredients were from multiple Rare Fates & items that only pop once in a while? like, what if you had to work at getting each ingredient, but also knew you couldn't just Grind like Mythology stuff, you had to do whatever Astrological Voodoo gets people in the right places at the right times.
This keeps Fantasia almost as rare as it was before, but it also gives Alchemists a reason to continue playing the game and paying subscription. Let people both buy and make the thing, but let making it be the most cruel recipe ever.

Nothing is quite so boring as nothing.
