The only fairness I'll give SE is that, when it comes to ARR they give so little info until is VERY close to patch time that people will speculate on every detail due to that fact.

I am lmao at all the people saying it's a mage outfit. It's like nobody watched the 2.2 trailer or something. That is clearly a male cat DRG.

Keep your eye on the lower right corner of the video. A DRG can be clearly seen popping out shoryuken while clad in a frilly skirt + pants getup.
As for the weapon, it looks very much like the business end of the Gae Bolg Zenith being held pointed down and at an odd angle making it appear short to the viewer. DRGs do this all the time (before and after a jump). And DRG has attacks in which the lance is held with 1 hand, though this particular DRG does not appear to be in the middle of an attack, it is for dramatic effect.
There is already a DRG in the art work and SE don't usually have duplicate jobs when they show off parties, in game or artwork.
I don't think it's far fetched that a new job would be included with 2.2. YoshiP himself said that jobs would be included outside of paid expansions so everyone could try them out.
Also it's been 6/7months since release so you'd think the battle/ job team would be up to something.
Looks like a dagger to me. Dragoon in trailer wearing the same armor? All that tells me is "This armor isn't unique to one Job".
Thief/Ninja Confirmed though? Nope. Would need to see AF to think that.
Btw that top the miqote is wearing is nothing like anything a caster wears. Otherwise I'd have it for my arcanist. What it does look like is the aetherial cotton tabard.
No more cast bars for Bard! Thank you, Yoshi-P! All hail our lord and savior!
I meant it 'looks' like Caster Gear. Not that it was currently available.
I thought everyone would've thought i'd be assuming this was a new top/skirt coming in 2.2 seeing as this artwork (funnily enough) is for 2.2...
Still having difficulty believing that's a Male Miqote DRG though...just doesn't seem like it.
I deliberated with my FC about this a lot as well. That definitely looks like a dagger. If it was a bow, we'd still see it continuing past the rest of their body. Lance/staff would be the same. Just because that "appears" to be caster gear as well, doesn't mean that it is. Almost all of that gear in the picture looks different from gear in game currently. Also, Square only ever puts one of the same class/job in their promo art like this. So the fact that there are 8 characters, DRG, 2 staff (BLM/WHM), WAR, PLD, MNK and SCH, that leaves only BRD available in the current jobs/classes. That is definitely not a bow, if that were a bow I would want a refund on any gil/tomes I spent on it because it's clearly broken.
Alot of people keep saying this is concept art but it's not. This is promotional art and as such I highly doubt anything in the picture is done purely at the whim of the artist. It is obviously a dagger or sorts and given Thancred's new love of dual wielding it is compelling evidence of a thief/rouge class. That being said it doesn't mean we will get it anytime soon. A new class is an excellent way to generate interest and hype in players. While they did keep scholar under wraps till nearly release now that the game is out it would be better to start that buzz further out then drop it in our laps. SE could be keeping it hidden till the end but just seems more beneficial to talk about. Besides there's still musketeer which is referenced in the game already since 1.0. Would feel odd to get yet another class before it again.
Take a look at the bigger picture with the image.
They are an 8 player balanced party fighting Leviathan.
Based on established FFXIV balance logic and evident gear, we have:
2 tanks: 1 war, 1 pld
a mnk and a drg
likely 2 healers, at least 1 sch
2 others in cloth. 1 definitely a caster, the other equipped with what could easily be a cudgel.
You are perhaps looking too deeply into this, OP.
There is no evidence to suggest that it is really caster gear for the "dagger" wielder, nor the fact that it is a cudgel. Looking at it, the way the shadows fall along it and the way that it's overall designed and held, there is a blade running along the outside edge of it, closest to the edge of the drawing, and the rest of it is flattened and not rounded out like a cudgel would be. It would be taking more of a cylindrical shape overall, which there is no graphic support for such.
That being said, the character is DEFINITELY wearing light armor gear, but due to the fact that the vast majority (if not all of) the gear shown in that art is gear not currently in the game, it's all speculation.

But anyways I look forward to 2.2
