Casual players leaving for frustration or hardcore players leaving from boredom.

Has anyone at SE even thought about the ratio of these two comparatively? Is the player base leaving because of frustration if difficult content ( which would doubtfully have much longevity to begin with) worth the portion of players who under different circumstances would be lasting customers, leaving because of lack of endgame content/too much faceroll? Or is SE really just planning on this to be a 2 year project which they'll drop eventually?

Please don't use FFXIV and difficult content in the same line. Just dont. They dont go together.

This is what i see happening.

Casual(as in MMO hoppers, short attention span etc) - get bored of the game and leave.

Mediocre play the game and eventually leave if no content.

Hardcore do not find hardcore content in this game, these are the players that finish, everything by Monday night.

FF Hardcore, these players are same as above and can fit into any above category, except they stay with the game, even tho this game is extremely easy.. just for the sake it is FF and hoping it will eventually turn up for the better like other FFs.

I'm agreeing with you; I feel SE fears that if content takes too much effort to complete that the casuals, who by nature will jump to a new MMO in 6 months regardlessly, that they will quit. The players with actual potential to keep the game alive and thriving, I.e. "Hardcore" players, get ignored and eventually leave because of boredom with the game, be it lack of depth/difficulty/content.

This is what generally often happens when you design something to appeal to everyone. It ends up appealing to nobody because there is no core vision.

How about we give the game time to get to its first expansion and add some content? I can't think of any MMO release that didn't have people leaving because of boredom after 6 months with no updates to the game. As an example, GW2 is trying, but until they release an actual expansion for that game, I won't go back to it because there is nothing to do.

I didn't play XI until it came to the 360 and by then they were two expansions deep and halfway into ToAU so there was plenty for me to do. People just need to give this game time.

I'm really hoping so; it's quotes from yoshi naming this a casual game and nerfing CT because it was presumably going to be too difficult for players makes me nervous for future content.

I've been playing this game for over 3 years now. I will probably stick with it.

But to people saying "give this game a chance it's not been out long"

    Give me a break.

Musketeer has to be the biggest joke for original players of the game like myself.

Dev team has done a lot of good work in the time given BUT remember ARR was in development while v1 was still running. They have simply not done enough.

First expansion? Don't make me laugh. Game had plenty of content that was stripped away before relaunch.

Hope since they now claim 1.8 million players SE will use that cash for serious server upgrades and reinvest a substantial amount in game development.

    I can but hope.

Hm, in my thoughts there are two types of 'casuals' then. Those that don't care what game they're playing and will only stay while it amuses them and those that have a casual approach to game content and aren't too concerned that they be 'first' and just enjoy the game (or make their own, like rp-ers.)

I've seen a number of non-hardcore (or new) players feel pressured to complete content they struggle with just because "everyone else" says it's "too easy". These folks may feel frustrated and want to leave the game. In my opinion, this is still a 'hardcore' mindset even if the player hasn't become 'pro'.

From what I have noticed, all 'difficult' fights just require good pattern recognition/memory and fast twitch reflexes. So people who excel in these things get bored because it IS too easy for them and there are no other options available currently.

I see myself as an unremarkably average casual player and I would like to see more difficult content with greater VARIETY available. Just don't make it story quest stuff. XD

I think the folks wanting to really be challenged aren't going to find what they're looking for in an MMO. Should probably look to other types of games, or find challenge in something that isn't videogame-related.

I can really relate to this. I would trade in the "challenge" for just a fun fight that's very doable but requires you to jump through a lot of hoops for the win, such as the first battle with Ultima.

SE needs to do some out-of-the-box thinking for their boss encounters to make them overall just plain fun and yet keep them from being too difficult for those who aren't puffy-chest macho gamer guy.

Most of my FC logs in on Monday night clears coil, clears EX primals and then is gone for the rest of the week. I only log in after monday to work on crafts. They need to infuse some life into the game, not just add a few more dungeons and a new primal. They need open world content, they need rare monsters that drop rare items, they need grinds that keep people engaged. There is nothing to keep someone who can clear content currently in the game engaged after mondays. It's a shame.
