Kicks should be essential, they are martial artists, not boxers...
They should be able to punch, kick and do jumping hit animations, just see tha attack animations fro City of Heroes Scrappers, they are completely awesome.
Kicks don't have to be a stance like in FF11, I would be happy to see them even as just normal hits...
actually pugilists are boxers, thats the definition
Yay on kick attack, but i think dev team got more important stuff to do atm
Exactly? Interesting choice of words which brings me to my comment above yours. When I see some gloves and a ring we can call them boxers. Kinda like when we see an arena, some men pitted against other men or lions, we can think of Gladiators as actually gladiators.
They're clearly more martial combatants rather then the most literal - and ill used - name "pugilist".
I'd much rather not see 'Pugilist' turn into a full martial artist class. A Pugilist is a pugilist, not a martial artist. Sure, it would make sense for it to branch off into a sub-class that can kick, but I don't like the idea of calling something a pugilist that isn't a pugilist.
As for the nit-picking comments above, Eruantien is correct, you are what you are whether you're doing it at that time or not. To put it into some sort of perspective for those that don't understand, saying a boxer isn't a boxer when he's not in a ring with boxing gloves on is like saying a rapist isn't a rapist when he's not raping someone. A boxer can also be a fencer and darts player outside of the ring, much like we can use say gladiator and archer skills as pugilists, but it doesn't make him less of a boxer. Skills need to be applicable to the class for the classes to be defined as such.
Anyways, if a pugilist gets a kick attack, I want to propose we also get a foot stomp/nose pull/head slap combination attack.

Spinning bird kick, lol
You're foccusing too much on unimportant details.
Pugilist is the equivalent of what Monk - Scrapper - Bruiser - Brawler - Black Belt - Master are in other games and that means that he is the H2H combat specialist of this game, they just happened to call him by that name because they wanted to make him sound original.
Do you think that Monks should have kicks and fight? (Shaolin Monks maybe) but FF11 doesnt have "Shaolin" on their name, they are just Monks...
Also "boxers" don't use claws when they fight and I am sure that even they can kick people outside of the ring.
They should even give them grappling technics for all I care, even Boxers "clinch" aren't they?

don't forget in the world of matial arts there is a lot of combinations mixed, matched, and adapted to each style. kick boxing, drunken boxing, Muay Thai. I don't know where I'm going with this but I do believe these styles also show forms of kicking.
