I don't even play this game every day and I have 4 50s and they all have relics. Not to mention when I do play its for 1-2 because I get bored. ._.

Yoshi already said the game was designed for casuals so you guys can stop trying to say it takes forever because Yoshi P already stated it's not designed too.

I don't see why players with so much time to play will only invest themselves in one game. Try something else for a bit, maybe invest yourselves into multiple MMOs. No game can ever offer infinite content.

That said, recent patches aren't helping. Killing the economy, nerfing content, invalidating previous content, making content highly unaccessable (housing), are all making the problem worse. Nerfing content just takes away from every new/casual players endgame. Players get a new myth piece every week, that is what till make coil easier for them. Every week if someone is struggling they become slightly more powerful to beat the content. Why add an echo buff to remove that progression challenge? Now incoming subscribers have less to do to get to the top instead of more. Making money can be fun for many, but the developers want to kill the economy because of RMT. They cite RMT (which will never go away) as to why they kill the economy and cannot have NMs. So a large amount of content goes out the window to combat RMT. That is a joke. Housing could be a great content, except most people can't get it, and even less (fc leaders) can even fully enjoy it. With a lot of this I just don't understand what the developers direction is or if they even have a real direction. I believe if each patch continues to go this direction the game will fail. Which would suck because I think this game has a ton of potential

Methinks this thread should be locked. At this point there's more mudslinging going on than constructive conversation.

(Redacted, seems things jumped back on track after this.)

I guess I just wanted to share a story about how this particular problem finally affected me personally. I feel bad for my friend.
I can understand your point of view from both sides, being the one who didn't understand why my friends were leaving, and also being the one who wondered why I was staying. I've been around since Alpha of 1.0, and have stuck with this game for a long time, of course with breaks here and there. At times I was the one who felt I needed to complete everything to be a completion-ist, and at times I have wondered what the point was to something and found myself bored.

I know people who only like to tank or heal, and have nothing else leveled to 50. They have no interest, and don’t wish to do anything but that, but find the game lacking in content for what they enjoy doing. This is fine, because they should be doing what they enjoy; not things they don’t just for the sake of content.

On the flip side, I know people with everything at 50, all DoW, DoM, DoH and DoL… all AF, all relic etc… and they still love logging in every day and doing Coil, dungeons, CT, Extremes etc… They are totally happy and have no issues so I am happy for them.

I have seen friends come and go, and been the one to come and go. After all this time the one thing that I have learned is not everyone is the same in their likes and what they feel an accomplishment is. I wouldn’t feel bad for your friend, because it seems to me that he knows what they enjoy and don’t enjoy. They know why will make them happy and what they feel is worth their time.

I always tell my friends and FC mates, I would hate to see you go if you choose too, but in the end I just want you to be happy and only you know what is best for you.

In the end it’s up to the player to know what they enjoy, what is worth doing, what isn’t and if they are happy. If they aren’t happy, even if they are my friend, I’d rather them be playing and doing things they enjoy. If that is some other game than this, then I’m still happy for them.

I am almost in the same boat as your friend, I only log on to chat and hang out with my friends or help random players with various tasks/issues

I've only been logging in to work on Miner while I watch Netflix on the other screen, and even that has become sort of a rarity.

@OP - Good read and post

I agree with you...I am one of the content locust, and I like it so far I take my little breaks when I need them and continue on. I do feel a bit down sometimes when I cap my myths for the week too soon or get my CT drop on the first run.

But then I just focus on other little things like melding armor, crafting and such.

I already "like" your post but I felt this was also needed so thank you for the good post.

Again, thank you for those of you posting impartially and constructively. Not just those that enjoy the filler content to pass the time, but also those of you "gear chasers" who have posted in an appropriate fashion.

@pinky, I'm glad you decided to finally post in the forums, but thanks for putting me in this position...reallll smooth.

I have NEVER said any of the following:

*"Content Locust" ( insert something derogatory)
    *"End Gamers" (insert something derogatory)

I will not let someone put words in my mouth, and believe it is my partial responsibility to respond to people either:

    a) Making insinuations that are incorrect on behalf of myself and others.
    b) Derailing the thread intentionally.
    c) etcetera

If anyone would kindly point out exactly where I was "not taking my own advice" (reading posts), please feel free to do so.

If this thread is locked due to derailing, it'll be posted again, might as well let us have our conversation.

    Thanks in advance, poo

    Well tyvm.

It's nice to see something positive in regards to it.

See, the problem isn't that I want my friend to share the same preferences, it's that I'd like to figure out a way to convince him of trying to get out of the gear grind. I think once he got "coil ready" all his objectives in game changed. It's sad because he's smart....REALLY smart. And polite. He is truly a pleasure to play with.

This "lack of content" conversation has come up a lot in the forums, but this is the first time I've dealt with it in game. What I'm trying to do now is put myself in a position where I can understand the mindset of someone with the problem who isn't stating this problem in a trollish fashion. He'd never get on here and condone the tone of this forum as a whole for instance.

Here are some additional things I might bring up to him to try and persuade him:

    *The chocobos

If they do incorporate chocobo specific duties/instances and they are actually fun, what will their level requirements be (chocobos). If you need a level 5 chocobo to go play some really fun dungeon, wouldn't you rather be prepared now?

    *Grand Companies

The new ranks are coming. I assume in 2.2. There are an unlimited amount of possibilities considering. New gear, new consumables, etcetera. There's also a good chance the could be tied to fronlines ie lominsa vs Uldah etc. If anything else, maybe new vanities. Most mmo players I know are into vanities one way or another. It's a rather lacking justification, but it's something.

    *PvP

It will only get better. Frontlines sounds like it could be amazing. Grinding ranks and marks out in what we have to work with now is boring, but wasn't fate grinding back in the day? Besides, he really understand the mechanics, he could be deadly.

    *Perfectionist/consumptionist

If completion perfection is your thing, shouldn't the content you don't find engaging also be completed? Again, fate grinding reference.
    ............................................

And again, thank you to those of you trying to give me a different perspective in a respectful and mature manor.

    @Kai

Thank you as well. And again, I'm sorry if I haven't addressed the well thought out comments ON BOTH SIDES....there's just a lot of stupid comments to weed through right now.

Oh....if only there was such a thing as "Rare Mats" What would they be used for anyways more useless crafting recipes?

You talking to people about content that has no ryhm or reason to exist in the game as it offers nothing in return. Chocobos? Take an absurdly long time to level for having absolutly no benifit asides the hope that they include something in the future and at that point wouldn't it only make sense to start leveling them when you can actually make use of them? Instead of allready being halfway up the content because you grinded them early?

The game has a lack of long term rewards and is full of time sinks with nothing linked to them.
