That's just THAT community, every community is different. I've played games where they allowed same sex marriages and people started crapping bricks.
Seeing how people here over reacted about a freaking event quest I wouldn't implement it either.
Have you ever thought some people play a fantasy game to get away from real life issues, and don't want to be told their love "isn't allowed / isn't OK" because of people like you and your issues and your politics?FFS, people will bring real life into games! and bother us here as well.
My Female should be able to wear male cloths! discrimination! etc etc
I play game to withdraw from real life issue and politics.... Then comes people that label themselves as something and mess up the game.
Dev waste time trying to cater to every sexual orientation, and we get no content but go ahead, enjoy the pink dress on your male character and vice versa.
Oh, I'm sorry - I should be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen. Silly me.

Holy slippery slope batman! Lessening restrictions on gender based items/activity = so much less content. That makes a lot of sense.
My guess from a programming prospective, SE puts more effort into designing gendered locked activities and items than just letting toons, regardless of sex, do what ever they want. So, I think you have it ass backwards: dev's are wasting time with additional coding to lock items and activities into heterosexual normality.
No marriage at all unless it has no benefits! (I don't plan on getting married in a game)
But that's the thing: Either they add a marriage system with benefits (which close friends/family and other unmarried people would want as well), or they add a marriage system with no benefits (in which case, why bother making a "system" at all when its about as useful as just RP marriage? Just give people rings they can put someone's name on regardless of gender, and if they wanna RP marriage then whatever.)
If SE started to enact segregation amongst players who have selected a darker skin tone for their characters that would be ok, because it's lore? Absolutely not.
Themes of racism and xenophobia are dealt with in the game already. Because it's exclusively amongst NPCs, this does add colour and depth to Eorzea and it's society. However, the parts of the story that deal with this always see's the NPC realise the error of their ways, closing the topic by adopting a globally accepted norm: racism is bad. However, it is another thing to enable players to indulge in their own prejudices. Taking such a draconian stance isn't going to add anything to gameplay or the narrative, thus serving no purpose. It will also put it out of line with the attitude towards same-sex relationships which many countries around the world where the game is played don't have an issue with.
No no no no no no. Keep real life BS out of our fantasy world, and go play second life.
There would be outcry if SE had glorified and/or fetishised the rape incident in Little Ala Migho, or if the storyline required players to participate in racism in order to progress. Any piece of art or literature that is racist, sexist, or other, is deplored and condemned by the communities it hurts and their allies. Just because it's a "creative vision" does not mean it can be excused for being offensive or unfair.
It's all or nothing when it comes to a global game allowing players to express their globally enshrined human rights. Putting defining parameters for in-game relationships is just silly unless it forms an integral part of the game, like in "The Sims". Even then, Maxis don't force players to enter into opposite sex relationships and you can still produce children outside of "marriage". So why can't SE either allow marriage for all?
Yes but you forget not everyone in the world is for gay marriage and just like ppl can't force god on others you can't force your ways on others i myself have no prob at all with gay marriage or equality but there are ppl who don't feel the same way are they wrong? what if some ppl don't like gay marriage is it fair to them to add it in this game? this sort of thing works both ways
