I know it's re-opening the debate on allowing same-sex marriages in Eorzea (did the debate ever close?), but maybe it's worth thinking whether whether marriage should be introduced at all.

What difference does it make? It's a nice thing for role players and people who play with their spouses/friends. And it's a very small thing to add. If you don't get it then don't bother with it. The only thing that really matters is if it's something that people want and will use and if FFXI is any indication, yes it is. Another useless debate if you ask me for something that only adds IMMERSION to an online WORLD.
