Did AK for the first time as WHM. New tank, probably i44. DRG maybe i55 and BLM i75. (All guesses by gear inspection) Couldn't keep them alive on the wall. Knat things were two-shot killing both DRG and BLM and 3-shot me. Tried running while tank tried getting aggro on them but no luck each time.

I felt hopeless. Back to more AK until I get it right!

last night in Quarn I was on my black mage and we got some level 50 scholar.
I figure he's 50 with an ifrit book probably knows what he's doing right? Wrong.
He doesn't heal at all and thinks his selene can heal the tank while it's.....on heal next to him instead of the tank.
When we ask him to do a protect he just stands in silence like an idiot (and it said E so I'm certain he can speak English??) so the tank had to rearrange his cross skills to do the protect instead.
We wiped at least twice on the golem boss because once again he's just not healing the tank and the tank died 3 times during that fight.

Since I main a scholar (with a white mage sub), I wanted to punch the guy into a oblivion for how BAD he was as a level 50 scholar. I gave the poor tank a commendation for putting up with his crap lol.

Don't think I posted this before, but when I hit 50 fresh on my WHM, I was using Cure III instead of Cure I/II because everyone was taking so much damage and I thought Cure III was just a better Cure. xD Only when I ran out of MP did I realise my mistake. Now I think I'm pretty damn good at MP conservation. But I still feel bad for other WHMs who haven't grasped it yet and just spam Cure II all the time unnecessarily.

A Bard friend of mine was working on finally reaching 50.
"Queue times are too long, can you help me?"
I join up with him (ilvl45~) and we begin running Aur Vale.
Our group was; i45 BRD, i45 SMN, i90 WHM, i85 PLD.

Initially I'm dreading this dungeon mostly because I know it's going to be slow and there's 0 benefit in me being here for this 45min run.

Tank starts pulling 2 adds at a time.
/fc "This is going to take forever..."
/p "Tankbro, you're invincible here, we're both nicely geared, pull some more adds!"
/p "SMNbro, aoe!"

-Proceeds to pull 5~7 adds at a time without burning cooldowns-
I don't say anything because I pretty much asked for it, panic hard, burn divine seals and SoS 'cus I'm dragging hate all over the place for my insane Cure I spam.

After first boss he slowed down to a less 'screw you' pace and it was nice.

Moral of the story: Don't Ask Your Tank For More Work Than You Can Handle.

Had this tank in Stone Vigil the other day who just would not hold his horses, and didn't appear to be using any defensive cooldowns. We dropped a few times, so when we were at the big pull at the end with the three Dragon Aevises, I planned to Stoneskin the entire party. That pull is awful with a group that isn't jelling, but if you can just down one of the Aevises, you can definitely get past it even if you wipe the first try. I Stoneskin the tank, and he immediately goes around the corner while I was Stoneskinning the first DPS. I immediately try to get into position to heal, but he's not in my line of sight, the Stoneskin is already gone, his health is going down like crazy, and as you might have predicted, he drops. I ask him to slow down and wait for me to Stoneskin everyone and then give me a few seconds to get into position, and his reply was "you only need to stoneskin the tank but whatever".

Yeah, in a perfect party, of course I only need to Stoneskin the tank. But if I can't keep you up, Stoneskinning the DPS raises our chances of shrinking the pull for the next try! ...and blow your bloody cooldowns...

The first time I ran Toto-Rak, I had partied up with my friend who was running Arcanist. We dealt with a fairly impatient tank. He wasn't like...a jerk or anything, but he seemed to want to run it and get it done.

But then we get to the final boss, and I go into the cutscene prior to the boss fight. Since I'd not run the dungeon before, I couldn't skip it.

About a quarter of the way through the cutscene, I get the message on my screen "[Zone] will be sealed off in fifteen seconds!" I'm still outside of the boss zone. The tank got impatient waiting on me and decided "I don't need the healer!" and pulled the boss. So I started spamming my way through the cutscene frantically trying to get back into the dungeon but get myself locked out of the boss room.

My friend ended up healing through the whole fight by spamming Physick, but I was so angry at the tank for that stunt. And then afterward, he had the nerve to say "Great run everyone, well, all except for the healer." Ugh.

Sounds like the tank was a douche. Here's hoping you never meet him again!
Wierdly tho, many moons ago, I also ran Toto with my friend on his first time, and at the end boss tank did exactly the same thing. I saw my friend watching the cutscene, so I actually stood outside the room with him, and we both got locked out....I was healer, and I think it was melee as the other DPS (my friend thurma).
They wiped quick...but tank was nice and apologised saying he forgot to check if anyone was watching cs...so we all were cool and gave the scorpion a slap


I actually do this even with randoms I dont know. I will firmly wait outside the purple line with whomever is watching the scene....I do my SS and Protect while waiting anyway...so unless the team is a totaly bunch of wombles, or low level where I cant SS...they are usually hanging round the entrance with us anyway

Ignore experiences like that with Ass-Tanks. They have power, they are in demand, they lead.....but it don't mean they got brains!

I think this is pretty much your own fault. Whenever I do WP, I let tank set the pace. They know their gear, they know their limitation, and they should know what they can do. As a healer, I shouldn't ask for anything they can't handle.

What annoys me the most is tanks who think can do SR, but in reality cannot do SR. And this with me consistently saying that he can't do SR and should stick with pulling 1 mob at a time.
I mean, I love SR. I would like to get the tomestones as fast as possible. But I would rather finish the dungeon at a slower pace than wipe consistently.

Yeah. Aside from that, I've had mostly good experiences with Tanks. I've had several DPS players (especially fellow casters) who think they can Tank, and that makes me crazy. I did DR once and got Halatali, we had a Tank that DC'd after the first mob pull and one of the DPS decided that we could just continue running the dungeon without a Tank. So he charged ahead, pulled two trash mobs (including three Bombs) and basically immediately wiped. I just wanted to be like "Aaaaand that's what you get."

Posting it here, since the fight itself seems to be a horror story, for some reason. But does anyone have any tips for healing Aiatar in Brayflox's Longstep as a SCH? I had ZERO issues on the fight leveling WHM through there. And the entire zone was easy as hell(if not slightly annoying since I couldn't Esuna) up until Aiatar as SCH. But Aiatar seems to be giving me a royal ass-wooping on SCH....

Edit: Never mind, just did a 2nd run that went 100x better. zero issues healing through the poison stacks, not quite sure what happened on the first run.
