Because it DOESN'T belong in a game. I have gay friends aplenty that bring up this issue to me and say they're even annoyed by this silly movement created by needy people such as yourself. Video games are made akin to an artists direction. If they make it the way they want to, you have to deal with it. That's art for you. You can hate it, but that's the way they want it. That's like being mad that Jack wasn't gay in the Titanic because that's "not equal" enough for you. It's not YOUR story to begin with.

I'm not talking about the story. I'm talking about creating LGBT events like the original poster is doing, or forming LGBT guilds, or allowing two players to get married. These things absolutely do belong in a game, because they're community based and should not be shut down because someone thinks otherwise.

No one is asking for Thancred to be gay, for example, although I certainly wouldn't mind.

However Mhaeric, it's not YOUR game. You didn't develop it, design it, create anything in it...SE did, and really, it's their choice what they do, and not everyone in the world has to like that design choice. If it bothers you that much you can vote with your wallet, as I stated earlier. I'm not telling you to leave. I'm saying that's an option, and a valid one that I would do if I felt the same way you do.

Going around though, and telling game creators they have to do something, is totally not going to work in anyone's favor. Regardless if it's an MMO, single player game, iPhone game, whatever, it's within the hands of the creator to include or not include content. I can stomp my feet all day long, create petitions, send letters to Yoshi-P, and even that's doubtful as hell. And SE is not discriminating by not including something, they simply don't want the controversy from that. If you view that as "playing it safe" then so be it, but that's their choice. As I stated earlier, I believe that sexuality and marriage shouldn't be designed INTO any MMO. It's far too broad of a thing to be tackled, and way too sensitive for a lot of people. Not having marriage at all means no one is upset. Problem solved.

However, based on the amount of people I personally have spoken to about this (granted it's like a hundred people at best), there's not this huge "I will quit if I don't have gay marriage and relationships" movement that people think there is. Quite a bit of the LGBT community just wants it left alone. Because they don't want games to mimic real life, and other reasons as well. No one comments on that though, which I find funny, but as soon as a straight person says "I think we shouldn't do this because of x", even if it's an intelligent reason, they're a gay basher.

Player created events are one thing....marriage, and actual events are designed by the creators. It's not your call, or anyone else's, whether or not it gets included. All people have done here is state opinions, like you, and yet I feel like you think no one else's opinion matters because they disagree, which really isn't all that fantastic to be honest with you. If LGBT stuff gets put into the game, whatever, I'm going to keep playing....it's a game, I don't live and breath for it, and I don't make a living playing it. I play to have fun, not so I can bring my real world problems into a digital realm.

There have been LGBT 'pride' parades going on in other MMOs (WoW comes to mind) for years. While I don't necessarily think we need to jump down OPs throat for suggesting a pride parade, I would like to also agree that this is a videogame and your sexuaity does not matter at all. On that note, people shouldn't care about the sexuality of others IRL either because it doesn't affect them... but, meh, that is a RL issue.

I feel bad for OP because I don't think an LGBT event would be bad... but I think everyone is directing their (understandable) aggression and annoyance toward the OP because of all the other LGBT threads that have been popping up... particularly with the Valentoine's Day Event. Why do people see that as being romantic? I exchanged chocolate with my friend and didn't care...

Milmoko, don't beat yourself up buddy. I'm not directing this at YOU, as a person, player, member of the LGBT community, nothing. I just stated my opinion on the event, and I'm carried away into debate land with other people. Lol. Keep on goin pal, I hope you have fun, at the very least, with what you're doing, regardless of differing opinions. And I apologize if this debate I've been having for over an hour now, as brought you down. Truly. I would take the debate elsewhere, but creating a debate topic just means deletion in .2 seconds.

As for the gay bashing man, just give them the bird and keep truckin pal. Bashing is the lowest form of human drivel. Going out of your way to grief someone because of their sexuality is inane, even if you disagree with it. It's one thing to disagree, it's another to blast it like you're the next savior of the human race. People like that don't deserve the attention they get from bringing you down. Get up pal, dust off those shoulders, and keep your head high.

Again this wasnt a debate topic! It was an simple stupid idea for a laugh and to try to give people who felt excluded by the valentines event a chance to come together and feel included - I wasnt talking about gay rights, or gay marriage or any of that as I know full well how those threads go (I lived through the hell of all the marriage threads in Beta and launch) and I know how they get deleted.
This was meant to be a fun optional idea. Key word FUN not protest.

But thanks for the support (with RL issues) anyway - I usually do flip them off or punch them if I'm honest. Just it wares you down after awhile and its been getting to me lately (other RL problems too), only so much I can deal with and all things considered I hit my limit on saturday :/
