Who actually complains about allaghan tomestones? It's a steady progression system with a pacing mechanism via weekly limits to prevent no-lifers from decking themselves out in full i90 gear within a week. And if you think those complaints are worth listening to, I'll tell you they're as asinine as the complaints over the crystal tower gear lockouts and weekly zone lockouts for coil.
and any new progression content is bad? No body loses when they add more choices. Keeps people busy and they don't have to conform to only one method of doing things.
It's bad when the system is designed to basically do the exact same thing as something that is already in place. That developer time and resources that could go into planning, designing and balancing other content.

Now if you were asking for trials to be implemented for specific, non-progression rewards (furniture/trophies, special titles like "Mandragora's Bane" and so on), I might be willing to lend my support.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

I have a very simple solution for those that want Trials of the Magian, go to playonline.com. There are instructions on how to play Final Fantasy XI Online on here. Now you can have your horrible trials without ruining this game. I still have 6~ active trials per character in ffxi and I have a lot of characters, I don't want that nightmare again, no thanks.

So if I proposed something similar with a completely different name, let's say "PUC" (Progressive Upgrade Challenges), would I get replies other a quick "no" without any explanation?

The problem is people immediately assume a defensive position when FFXI is mentioned, it seems :x
There are no NMs here, no one would have to camp anything anymore.

I am simply proposing a system that works so well in FFXI and is still a huge part of getting new weapons and gear, only it could be optimized to work with FFXIV's world.
Would at least give some life to the 90% dead zones currently in the game, much like how beastmen dailies revived a couple of areas now.

Well so many people did say no right off the bat because yes.. Trial of the Magians was outrageously tedious and annoying. So I am sure it brings back oh so wonderful memories to people who did it.

But I also see what you where getting out but I feel like weapons would need a huge overhaul if a system like this was set in place. It it stands right now you can buy a weapon on the market that's better than a Ifrit/Garuda weapon (With correct melds mind you.) and those are something that are rare drops. But I don't know if the MMO community as it stands now wants huge time sinks like having to kill 500 birds at night on a hill between the game hours of 16-00. Let's be real it isn't that fun... something to do yes but fun is subjective.

It's not even because FFXI is involved, it's because it was a damn terrible system. It consisted of grinding for the better part of weeks (per piece of gear mind you) just for a barely noticeable upgrade. Now it would be fine if it stopped there, but it didn't. It then moved on to farming low% drops in stupid amounts and/or murdering 10 of some random NM that spawned once every 2-5 hours. Who the hell seriously would find that fun? I'm guessing by most of the people that responded, the only one that likes that system is you.

    TL;DR: No.

Edit: Seeing as how you decided to mention NM's and the fact that there are no NM's in FFXIV:ARR, what would be holding them back from some stupid as hell condition like, "Get Gold on X FATE event 20 times.". Because that's what I want to spend my day on, standing in the same damn spot, waiting for the same stupid FATE that 34793287432978 other people are waiting to pop, just to get silver because it dies in 13.5 seconds. It was a bad system in FFXI, and it would be a worse system for progression here.

Edit #2: Before someone says, "someone is buttmad about doing it in FFXI" I didn't. I saw the conditions for some of the trials, and realized it was a HUGE waste of time for almost no gain, or for a huge gain at the expense of your sanity.

You really think I want to bootshine 2000 bunnies

Then go fight a NM that only spawn every 24 hours and have to fight for claim in top of that.

    No thanks.

Imo and I'm sure a lot of other peoples opinions, FFXI started to go downhill when Abyssea and ToTM was released. I really don't think this is the content we should be asking for from XI.
