Of course healers and tanks are less represented... the game is set up so that people can be abusive and rude, so the roles with the most visible responsibilities have a giant target painted on their foreheads.
I hear your pain. That's been happening to me as well way too many times. What I usually do in those instances is to (keeping the kindest tone as possible) invite them to leave if they feel my tanking just won't do for them, making sure mention, without trying to sound passively aggressive, that it's okay, DPSs are easily replaced.

Answering the question about the fun of DPS, well my other main is MNK so...
Monk is based on a combo u need to keep up, while avoid AoEs and hitting the enemy on specific spot, the longer u keep the combo+dots the most dmg output u have. And the faster you kill, less the tank take damage and the less the healer needs to heal so...cant drop the combo =0

I changed from SMN to SCH (even loving Summons) cause...I felt more like Healers r the ones that have to deal with more adversities, and the one that need to think faster...so yeah its an adrenaline bomb. Criticals n Primals AoEs (Titan anyone?) r godd example of it.

Im thinking on WAR n BRD as 2nd class of my both characters, liked them both :3
However I would prefer if Bard was Archer/Conjurer/Arcanist ._. being a DPS buffer was so cool on lower levels at least XD

Some ppl couldnt even do Roullete. Got tired of seeing ppl flame in early levels like Satasha, blaming a new tank, instead of teching him how to use flash.
People should try to teach and work togheter first. Blame later if he/she dun listen to u. New ppl usually listen more than old ones.
By the way we always have Leave and Report at our service....we may not let this game end so full of hate like WoW.

This fine gentleman summed up everything. No need for a moderator to reply.

Guild Wars 2 removed "the holy trinity" of tank/healer/damage since every class can and is all three of those. You just need people, not specific people. It's not a standard MMO, and that doesn't apply to this game without a complete rebuild which they are not about to do for the third time.

It's different enough, and that's all that matters. I have 2 level 50 tanks, I'm a good tank, and I hate tanking. I do it because it's needed and I can help my friends out with it. I would much happier as a DPS, but I'm a tank now and that's all there is to it. Tanking and healing are also thankless jobs that if something goes wrong you're the one that gets the blame. If a new level 50 is crazy pulling dungeons ahead of me and we can't clear it without wiping then the fault is the tanks and healers in not staying alive in their minds and it in no way is him being a tool and not doing his job.

Just like to chime in on the, "Go level a tank!" responses. My first job to 50 was Paladin, I then chose to level Monk. Sitting in DF for 20-30 minutes at a time, even longer before the DF changes, isn't going to be alleviated by switching to my tank. How is that going to level my Monk?

The main problem for me with playing a tank in this game is it is rarely fun and more often than not frustrating and punishing. I played a Paladin and Ninja tank in FF11 for over 6 years, a Paladin in Everquest for 4 years prior to that, and generally gravitate towards tanks in other MMOs. I enjoy tanking, I enjoy being that guy between everyone else and the mob saying, "You shall not pass!" Tanking in this game is simply not enjoyable for me, that might change if they add a new tanking job but the crux of the matter is encounter design is 99% dodging the big circle/cone of death and the unfixed and ever present lag in this game makes that problematic at the best of times.

I can handle a healer sucking and not healing me in time, I can handle derp DD who attack random mobs or try to pull hate off me for shits and giggles, I can't handle dodging crap on my screen and yet still being hit. Until they either resolve the glaring lag issues with this game or find a different mechanic other than AoE dodging to test players I don't ever see the tanking contingent being bloated in FFXIV.

You "roll a tank" people have to think with your brains....

If someone wants to play as DD, then they should be able to. Making excuses for that is pathetic. Like I pointed out, rolling as a tank doesn't make it easier for my DD's (the ones I like to play)

Sure, if everyone rolls a tank and plays once in a while, then this might not happen... but that's not the case, and it shouldn't have to be the case either.

Have never played an MMO where I had to wait for such ridiculous periods of time.

I don't know exactly how they could fix it, but I'm not a developer either... so that's not my job.

One thing is for sure, I rather quit playing this game, than changing my main job to a tank...
Then you and the people who think like you and agree with you are not only apart of the problem, you're the sole cause of your problems. DPS queues are not going down until more players agree to level and gear their tanks. Period, end of discussion. It doesn't matter what you enjoy playing, it matters what needs to be done. There are simply too many of you DPS trying to fill limited group slots. Players need to take responsibility and level needed classes or sit and craft while you wait 60-90 mins in queue.

    Your choice.

Maybe it's time to add more tank/healer jobs to the game. Key word is jobs not classes.

As a tank I never DF unless it's an 8man and no one in my FC/LS is online.

Too much bs to put up with. If people were decent I'd be more inclined to throw myself at the DF. But generally DF is a pain.

So you are solo queing for a 24 man instance that is usually put together from parties made on 3 servers using Party Finder. Hmmmm why WOULD you be suprised? If you have clicked Join Party in Progress you would have gotten in faster as solo. Why would you even think that you are likely to get in on a fresh solo que? There is usually at least 1 party being formed at any given time on Party Finder. Try using that first next time. I would just assume a dps is never going to get in using DF.
