    Can we please stop giving melee bad stigma?

    <rant>It really sucks how every time I log in I wanna go do something like ex primals or some turn of coil, and I open up the party finder only to see a dozen or more parties for all the content I need, restricted to *RANGED* dps only; no melee allowed.

    Seriously, what bs is this? Why is the entire populace just outcasting melee dps just because they can? It's depressing enough to see that I wonder why the hell we even have melee jobs in this game in the first place.

    I'm not even sure where to post this, because I can't tell if it's because tons of bad melee players are running around permeating the stereotype that all melee suck and die to everything because they can't dodge, or if the rest of the world is at fault for thinking this way.</rant>

    I just want to have fun guys, on jobs that are fun to play... isn't that why we play this game?

    1) Open Party Finder and hit "Search for Members".
    2) Put whatever restrictions YOU want on the party.
    3) ???
    4) Profit!


    Maybe other people find it more fun to play with ranged dps?
    Is what you find to be fun somehow more relevant than what they find to be fun?
    At any rate, the solution is simple. Make your own groups.

    I don't see this problem on Excalibur. /shrug
    Actually, I think I've never seen one for ranged only on Excal period though I have seen that before when I was on Hyperion.
    Maybe you should transfer here?

    Semi-true as a solution, though I've encountered my fair share of people that won't join parties that have a melee in it already too.

    Only time I've ever seen this come up is when a group already has two (or three) melee and don't want a third (or fourth).... but the same goes vice versa as well.

    Generally the only class specific consideration I see anymore is groups with three random DPS demanding a bard for the fourth slot.

    Much more rarely I see "no smn" groups. But I don't think I've seen any 'no melee' stuff since 2.1.

    Though I do agree that it's pretty dumb to avoid melee. The skill of the player matters more than the class. All content in the game has been done with full melee groups even, so the stigma is pretty baseless.

    why bother risk getting "bad melee" when you can get "bad ranged" and still win quite easily? bad melee means you're 3 manning Garuda EX, bad healers (or melee) means melee has a hard time in Ifrit. all ranged, even if bad players, removes some mechanics that would make groups fail.

    it's a risk vs reward. content can be done in 4 melee and maybe even done quicker. but it's much safer, easier, and may be just as quick with 4 ranged DPS in certain content (Garuda EX, Ifrit EX). there is no fight in the game that REQUIRES the (marginally) better DPS that melee provides.

    just like how gear doesn't equal skill but you'd take an i80 pug over an i70 one. if i had 2 people wanting to join my Garuda EX group, a melee and ranged, i would take the ranged. why risk melee instagib WW (exaggeration) when the ranged can safely pew pew away?

    The problem isnt with the melees but rather that a lot of mechanics can be trivialized by picking an all ranged group. So from a tank or healer perspective it doesnt seem worth it to get a melee, when 4 ranged still deal enough damage and equal less work for them.

    In content where mechanics arent biased, like say titan ex, i very rarely see people not wanting to bring a melee.

    Its probally because most drgs and monks are idiots who die/sit in aoe's, don't pay any attention to whats going on around them, and just take way to much easly avoidable damage. Most of the time I hear of a bad coil run on my server its almost always the drg or monk being a mana sink due to having to res them repeadly since they get 1-2 shoted by anything and tend to not dodge aoes too well. If you want melee to not have bad stigma get the melee dps playerbase to stop sucking so hard and it'd go away. As a tank myself and as a whm I am lving up, i'd much prefer all ranged dps over melee just for the fact there is much less risk of them dying to stuff, and for my healer, its alot less work for me. When I am on my bard I always facepalm when I see drgs/monks repeadly die to aoe's, all it takes is a little paying attention to avoid it but they seem unable to do it. I personally blame melee's complacated rotations/mechanics. Ranged dps rotations are much much simpler.
