I never played 1.0 but have watched all the cutscenes. I agree that it definitely had more of that Final Fantasy feel (atmosphere, if you will). There is a feeling that you're a part of some grand tale that you've only just started to unravel.

2.0's story is far more... sterile I think is the word. The biggest issue has to do with a lack of continuity and any sense of urgency. None of the key characters and key story developments have any impact outside of those cut scenes, so you don't feel like you're "progressing" through one large story as much as you're simply watching one isolated acting session after another, at the end of which you are simply allowed to go back to doing whatever it is you were doing without any incentive to progress the story because the emotional attachment simply isn't there.

For what it's worth, most of the story so far seems to be packed with nothing but hints and teasers on bigger and grander things hiding just off the horizon. I hope we are simply in a long and slow prologue right now and that SE will wow us with something in the next few patches/expansions (one can hope anyway).

Voice acting bring myself more into a game. Like I'm living it Vs Stopping the action to read a book.

1/2 the Dialog I don't even read for side quests because what does it matter. Go kill XXXX of these things and bring back this.

As for the Main Story CS. I want to be drawn into the story but when 1/2 is voice and 1/2 is Read it just don't make for good story telling.

Would you goto a movie and every 15 mins there was scrolling text for 5 mins then back to 15 min for the movie. At the end the producer comes out and says Sorry we didn't have the budget to film the cool action stuff so we just had you read how cool it was going to be.

    Commendations.
If I play dps I only give it out to other dps.
If I play tank I only give it out to healers.
If I play healer I only give it out to tank.

Only if they should be getting a commendation.

As Yoshi-P proved it, you can. But you can only do it once and only when the world is dying...in-game and in real life

The main story was ok until you got to horizon, then its became a "omg why wont esc allow me to skip this cut-scene"

The main story felt very dry, uninspiring and flat out boring. It didn't feel like I was playing a final fantasy game at all.

Not to be that guy, BUT OH WELL:

FFXI's story lines were pretty freaking sweet. Even the Nation Mission storylines were really rich with the history of the country. I agree that this story line is simple and easier to follow...but it lacks the kind of depth that makes me really engaged. CoP, on the other hand...

I agree with TrystWildkey too. I don't think the story in 2.0 is made by Yoshi tho'. There's a team in charge of that and unless they changed that team when Yoshi took over i don't think it's different people.

ToraoKoga - Yes the story at the end got a bit better. In the beggining it almost made me not want to play anymore but it did get better towards the end but still nowhere near what Square-Enix game should be.

They may have been rushed with the release of 2.0, obviously they did not even release everything they had planned for 2.0 yet. So i hope that in the future they will come up with a much better story and and voice acting. Even if it means delaying the next expansion. I'd rather them put up patches with some new dungeons and extra gear while they get the expansion done the way it should.

Can I just say that the "feast" quest alone mad me angry? I mean they are talking about a primal and urgency- and yet waste the hero's time gathering food for a feast... then sit around gabbing and eating.

I was furious. There was ZERO empathy for people in trouble. What kind of hero are we? Can you imagine the amount of anger people would feel if they found out that while they were in peril, you were "questing" for an epic party?

Outrageous. It made me completely dislike the npcs... and I questioned my own character for not killing them all for being so heartless.

In terms of being an RPG, the story is definitely wanting in several areas. It has a good start, but then fails to provide enough interaction between certain characters to justify the things we are seeing post lvl35ish. Also, I can't tell if I'm missing key information during questing because there is a point where even the most patient of people are going to skip text bubbles because of overload.

I agree on the voice acting. The only one I like out of the bunch is the voice acting for Lahabrea. I think he really captures the villain correctly even if there is as rare cheesy line he has to read. A lot of the lines read by the voice acting cast in general really felt unnatural, like the voice actors didn't have any time to get into how they were going to deliver them or even provide any say on the script.

I appreciated the addition of the voie acting.

However, the fact that it only present in a few cutscenes, and not at all in the Main Scenario content in 2.1, leaves me undewhelmed
