I think people really need to learn the difference between "undercutting" 1 gil and "undercutting" 400 gils.

In the first case you are not "undercutting". You are placing yourself at the top of the to be bought list. Everyone does that, and if you don't you are wrong. It is just the nature of the beast and nobody should feel the least bad about it.

In the second case you ARE undercutting and you ARE the problem. Why do you lower your price this much ? Let's say you are player A and competing to sell with player B. After you have put your stuff 1 gil lower than B, B come, see that, lower its price to be under you. After you have put your stuff 400 gil lower than B, B come, see that, lower its price to be under you. You win nothing by cutting 400 gils. Moreover, if you do sell before B come, that is 399 less gils in your pocket.

But the biggest problem is yet to come, it is the psychological effect you have on your corner of the market doing this. When you lower by 1 gil, you are "playing fair" and you encourage other to play fair. When you lower 400 gils on a 3200 item, you are basically making a statement of war to other sellers. You are putting your nuts on the table, and saying "get the f** out kid, i'm the one in charge there, and i will drive you out of this market".

Guess what. Most people when provoked this way won't play nice. They won't undercut you by 1 gil, they will do so by 200 or 300 gil, because f** you. And when player C come... well, you described yourself how quick this can degenerate. At some point nobody has anything to win anymore, everyone lose, and hopefully the market reset itself to more appropriate levels.

Anyway, OP. From what you described, you are not a victim here, you are one of the bad guys.

Did you really just complain about people undercutting your undercut? Take it from a veteran to getting rich through crafting. Never undercut. Shoot, you can even overcut. Put it up there for what you want and wait. Eventually the other items will sell and yours will be all alone, for even a minute this is good. Because the next guy will move his back to just under yours. That's when you match him. And that's how you make the market go back up. The people who undercut too much aren't making money enough to keep crafting that item, so they won't be back too often. Just be patient. They don't call it a quick buck for nothing. A real buck isn't quick.

    This, very much.
There is plenty of money to be made from crafting but if you're hoping for a lot of money quick then you are in the wrong profession.

First thing first, you give up on crafting. It's pointless and just there as a remnant from 1.0. and XI, Yoshida has made clear he doesn't care.

Selling Titan runs or something is probably your best bet.

I make a good amount of gil.

    Daily map - 1500-5k
    6 Beastmen dailies - 800 each for 4800
High level roulette - 1500 + mob gil grop
    Low level roulette - 1500
    Guilheist roulette - 1500

So I average between 14k and 16k everyday minus some minor teleport costs.

With mobs dropping so much gil left and right are you really strapped for cash anyway?
I feel for the OP crafting mechanics are fun but it's kinda 100% pointless to craft anything if you're not just doing it to get to 50 (to which leves are the better option anyway).

Also a honest question: What can one buy in this game that is expensive and worth it?
Seriously the gil that I've gotten from dungeon monsters has built up. Dungeons drop better weapons than the AH sells. Where do you suggest I invest all this gil? I have tons of food, but honestly I don't really need any of it.

Thanks in advance for any answers that might be useful =)

As a fellow person on balmung. I can say that it has gotten really hard to earn money for housing now. Everything is worth very little to nothing. I used to be able to earn around 100K each day. Now I'm lucky if I can reach 50K. Considering I tend to earn around 20K-30K now...

Honestly, S-E should either lower the pricing on housing even further or do something about this economy.

ok, so 100 person FC, lets say each member does this and donates 10k a day. Thats 1 mil a day for the FC, even with 100% of members donating, it would still take 3 months to afford a large house. lol something wrong there.

My Wife makes 300k a week off GMS, Just selling the same 3-4 items over and over. She wont uncut more then 1-10 Gil, your OVER doing it. Your not selling a item that is needed, read up on your job and look for info on items used to lv GSM Leve Quest turn in, There going to have the faster and high sell time. Try not to over full the AH with your crafts, 2-5 at a time, If ppl see someone with 5-10 of the same item up there going to think F this will take to long, and undcut BIG just to try and sell 1st.

Try not to over think to much on time... AH for most server is slow Sunday-Thursday Monday's are resat but ppl are more in to getting daily/weekly fin over farming/crafting, then pick up Friday and Saturday when more ppl get back on game
Also try farming your mats for ones? I farm 100% of all my mats Sunday 3-4hrs, Craft Monday and Sell over the week, making 500k ( on bad weeks )-1.5M ( on good weeks ). Then again i do have all 50s for farming and 6 Craft lv50.

The market on Odin has crashed, people just want to get rid of stuff they've collected at any price that it's barely profitable because a) they don't have enough bag space left even with retainers for all the junk they've got from getting all crafts to 50 and having more than 1 job, and b) people aren't buying because they're trying to save money for a house. People don't care no more how to play the market, you'll see an item go steady at 12,000 gil for a few hours, then someone will sell theirs for 10,000 gil, then another person will sell theirs at 9,000 gil, then another will put in theirs for 7,000, then another will put theirs at 3,000. By the next day they're selling at a steady 2,300 gil. And I'll say this again, crafted gear is not necessary because it's being trumped by dungeon loot, so if you're trying to sell crafted gear be in for a long wait for a buyer. The only sellers now are food, ingredients to make that food, and just a couple of the philosophy items, the rest is on a steep decline to worthless.
