As people have stated earlier in this thread: My awe and respect is reserved for people that take the time out of their lives to create content for other players to enjoy and progress. PoV videos, instructional videos, entertaining songs, or blogs, or artwork about the game. These people are the ones that enhance our overall experience in and out of eorzea. Not the guy who was the first one to sport full allagan.
Also... in ffxi, I was way more in awe of the WHM that would hang out in valkurm giving out raises to goblin victims than I was of the player with the dynamis weapon talking down about 90% of the server. That guy can eat a d**k.
No. Gaming is not something to be ashamed of. Feeling like you need some special gear or skills to earn respect and show off your eskills is. Respect is earned, not by items, but by actions. You want respect? You want awe? Earn yourself a reputation then. No amount of gear will earn you the respect and awe that a reputation for skill and character will.
.
No, because as you can see by some of the responses, a lot doesn't exactly have good attitudes in this community.
No! Respect have to be earned!
When I want to blow some minds, I just change to warrior -> Defiance -> Infuriate -> Steel Cyclone. Works every time.
my god maat on summoner would be boring as can be. NPC + player just stand there getting hit by there summoned pets and casting Dots + fester - energy drain - ruin -.-

I don't think the OP meant players should bow down or praise high level characters. He means there should be some meaning to getting items or hitting max level. Why were people in "awe" at high levels or people with rare items? Because it meant they had to take time to progress to get to that state. It also meant you tried harder to do so and when you DID get to max level or got that rare item, it was a "HOLY SHIT YESSS" moment.
This doesn't really exist in XIV...
AF1: Yay, I clicked the circles and my gear appeared!
DL: I did the same easy dungeons (or speed runned) over and over and bought my gear!
Relic: Everything minus Titan HM is easy, while Titan HM is the only part that you may have some accomplishment in. Though this is more on not having a person on your team that brainfarts or is lagging rather than Titan being a hard fight.
Myth: More of the same with DL.
Seconded. I have a couple jobs @ 50 yet see myself no better or worse than any other player.
We're all players on equal status IMHO, and there is really no reason for people to look at level 50 players with "awe". I don't care how glowy your gear is.
It is just a game after all and it's supposed to be fun, not a popularity contest.![]()
