Personally I don't know what you're all talking about, when I was level 1 in my hyuran clothes with my weathered short sword and someone walked in to the waking sands wearing a bladed lantern shield and a flame captains flachion with some awesome looking scale armour or something I'd be going "that looks awesome! Can't wait til I get that!" No glowing auras, no Maat fight, no raise 3, no Dragging an NM's carcass in with em to impress me, their gear just looked cooler than mine, is that not enough?

If you want to be special then get every allagan item for your job or achieve BiS.

I think the bottom line is this:

We all show respect in different ways for different reasons. We all have different opinions of what "fun" is. We all have different ideas of what is challenging, and whether or not we want things to be easier or more challenging.

No MMO will ever cater to ALL of those differences. You can get on this message board and post your ideas, your desires, your dislikes, and might reach the developers and make a difference.

What you won't do is convince other forum users that your thoughts and ideas are better, or more correct, or whatever. You're just being silly. You're also part of the reason people on the game say to newcomers "Welcome to the game! Avoid the forums."

1. I hardly get a chance to do Coils.

2. What I have to do in that fight is significantly easier than healers and tanks.

3. 1 fight out of the entire game takes a few well timed reactions does not make up for the rest of the game!

You don't seem to understand the issue:

1) You haven't experienced all the fights in the game so whether you think they are difficult or not is irrelevant.

2) Tanking is easier than DPSing (if you play DPS properly...I have my doubts)

3) There are several: not just 1. Might know this if you were in coil more often.

Also, I didn't instantly respect or become filled with a sense of awe upon seeing a max level in FFXI. It was a grind. Not a challenge.

Umm what?
People achieving something/being highest lvl/having best gear, etc in a GAME doesnt make me respect or be in awe of them. Good for them and congrats for getting it, but expecting to be revered because of things you got in a game is sad.

I wasn't really ever awed. Honestly, as others said, it's more rare to come across nice and courteous players. Players that don't rage quit, belittle their party members, or troll. I respect players like Mr. Happy and the Order of the Bluegartr--I wouldn't say awed. Yes, it's impressive that they can clear that content, but I respect them because they create content for their fellow players (sponsors or not).
