RNG drops like that would simply promote more RMT monopoly. They have to be far from the most powerful. Whatever unique attributes that it might have cannot be even on-par to what would otherwise be considered best/near-best.

The concept of something taking 6months for hardcore sounds nice... at first. But seriously, your peers will not tolerate that long of a wait for something, regardless of it being the best equip or not for a year or two. When you dangle something like that in front of the majority playerbase, you're just shortening their patience exponentially. Seriously, look at the FC housing situation. It's intended to be something to last for the entire foreseeable life of the game, yet people can't accept the fact that it's not something they can get within a month or so.

Yes well, Gear Treadmills work better in games where you can only have 1 class.

Much rather see them add new classes rather than vastly improved gear tiers. Absolutely want new and more difficult encounters, but I prefer them tuned to your player skill rather than your item level. Like Titan Extreme was released with players already being full 90, and it's still an appropriately challenging fight. Not that we don't one-shot it plenty, but it demonstrates how newer fights that release the same level of gear can be just as good as releasing higher level gear that helps you out-gear old content.

Impossible to monopolize if the items are U/U. Are RMT monopolizing Odin mantles and Behemoth horns? It's effectively the same thing.

Also, the FATEs which drop these sort of items should randomly appear in different zones (ie. Odin) and the Bosses that drop the items should be a ultra-rare RNG spawned chest or drop (ie. 4th CT chest, Ifrit Horn, etc)

Basically use the same systems we have in place now for mere novelty stuff and introduce items and gear that has usefulness proportional to the rarity or difficulty in obtaining the item

The FC issue is largely due to the expectations of the players based on previous claims by the Developers ("You can buy a house if you save all your gil gathered from lvl 1-50"). Housing is also generally expected to be a novelty feature that is widely accessible in modern MMOs - FC housing was not.

If players understood at the start that these new 'Ultimate gear quests' would be very long term but that the rewards are proportional, they will work towards it - or give up even trying (which is good) But the quest needs to be difficult, tedious (RNG), and time consuming enough that very, very few hardcores will obtain it in the minimum time.

Use the FFXI (pre-Abyssea) relic weapon quests as a guidelines: Owning a Relic then was a true rarity. Thus it was never required for content as it was an unrealistic goal for 98% of players. -- This had a great side-effect on the game culture where Players without a relic couldn't brag much about their gear, whereas most players who owned them were dedicated and focused hard-working types who typically didn't brag at all.

It's about managing player expectations, and having the rewards meet the amount of work to gain them. <-- This was something that the FC housing launch failed at miserably.

Are you trying to convince me or yourself? 5 months is the time it took for Swtor to go F2p

If you play the ESO beta you'll quickly change your mind about that.
You obviiously didn't play the beta if you think Eso isn't offering anything. The game has its flaw (no weight behind melee combat, 1h + shield being flat out useless compared to other weapons type and weapn skills being subpar compared to class skill) but it also have much to offer. Eso and Gw2 are the only 2 mmo out there who's actually taking risk and try new things with their game design instead of copy pasting everything and taking the safe route. the game also won't be held back by a toaster also known as ps3

    Complete Hypocrites here

Eso is 4months before release and not even in open beta but its ok to judge it!
But its still too early to judge ffxiv ! even though its now 5 months from official release but lets give it a year more!

FFxiv 4 months before release was a terrible game(especially for casters) . So i don't think you can judge a mmo that is based on exploring (teso) from its stress test hehe.

Anyway I beaten Twintania 13 times and every week i have just been logging one day to do coil. Capping myth after that feels like a complete chore, that i have force myself to do. Or i just watch videos while i heal dungeons >_>.
Worst thing is people keep leaving from my fc which has disbanded now i just have my linkshell of 9 people which i 1/1 coil with :P.

You can still judge on what ESO has to offer in the beta for some parts of the game, FFXIV beta reflected a lot of what the game is now, so is ESO's beta.

I just don't think that it was a good idea to make ESO a MMO, instead of just an online game.

I freaking love skyrim. But eso didnt give me the same feelings. Its an mmo so freedom is restricted . However when you look at what else is on the market mmo wise. Theres not much thats better.
I am thinking ill try eso for one month at least for the new mmo experience. The graphics and design of the world is amazing (compared to ffxiv). There is also the modding aspect of teso that ffxiv lacks. I am not sure how much users will be able to mod but that will be a could be a source of endless entertainment.

I'm no quite ready to judge yet since the game still needs to introduce 2nd Jobs for current classes and each major update does add more to the main storyline.

I'll wait until 2.4 or 2.5 to make my judgement because by then we will have Crystal Tower and maybe Coil Turn 11 to 15. Not to mentioned more of the Main Story would be released since each Major Update adds more to the Main Storyline and 1 new Dungeon with 2 Hard Mode Dungeons per Major Update.

Dark Souls by From Software, the 'Soul Series' starts with Demon Souls exclusive to PS3, but have migrated to PC, and Xbox
Basically they're hardcore A-RPGs, they have very dark fantasy themes, rich and deep lore that you have to explore to find, very deep combat mechanics with near endless possibilites to builds, if you wanna beat the game at Soul Level 1 dual wielding shields, go do it, armour and weapons aren't as important as planning, patience and skill, and being able to learn from your mistakes/
There's soo many secrets, the games been out for years but the community still learns things about it, it is a deeply punishing game, that won't hesitate for a second to murder you steal your souls (experience and currency basically) and humanity (another form of currency) but it is deeply fair, and not once did I feel like it was a cheap game. There's usual small hints beforetraps, that are super subtle you must be observant and an explorer.
There were 2 amaaaazing maps in the game completely hidden, without an amazing sense of curiosity and exploration and observation, or a guide... you'd never find them.
Everything in the game was viable, if you wanna beat the game dressed up in dark robes and a scythe to look like Death, go get them, if you want to beat the game in your starting gear, enjoy.
As welll as the most innovative and amazing online features ever, you can see other peoples ghosts in realtime as they play the game (but can't interact with them) to let you know the game isn't so empty and others are suffering with you, you can leave messages warning others of traps, or tricking them to their doom, once you die your bloodstain is seen in others worlds and people can walk to it and watch how your ghost died, hopefully to plan ahead, there's also summons and invaders, if you see a white sign when you're alive, you can use it to summon another human player to help you, no voice chat, no messaging just a player sent to help you. Then there are invaders, which are other players that can forcefully invade your game to kill you if you're alive to steal your souls and humanity (part of the lore as well), not to mention covenants.
Coveneants are essentially factions of NPCs you can join, with different purposes, say the Darkwraiths devote themselves to invading other players, the Darkmoons on the other hands are the cops of the world, they invade 'sinners' (invaders), there's also Forest Hunters, who are summoned to the Darkroot Forest to protect it from tresspassers, and Gravelords who infect your game and make it tougher, and the only way to cure it is if you find them and kill them.
