It's like using a calculator on a math test and getting a fail when your teacher told you not to use it because it needs to be done by hand. The parser may make it easier and be harmless, but if they say no/against the rules as stated in the ToS, then we can't use it.

I use it personally, but not consistently. I don't post it in chat logs nor make a mention I am parsing except for my friends on teamspeak. That way we can compare numbers and figure out what needs to be tweaked. Great tool......just needs to be approved.

To continue the analogy, it's more like you CAN use the calculator but are still required to show your work, because of idiotic responses like "this is the answer because my calculator says it is."

Can you provide a link to verify this claim? It's just speculation until proven otherwise. Do you see what I did there?

What's more well known as truth, is the fact that FFXIV-APP got the nod of approval from SE. A request to see some kind of legally binding document before you're convinced is quite frankly, ludicrous.

I vaguely remember this, it had to do with the rift zam site. A whole bunch of people who were on the site (Like a bunch) got key-loggers and were hacked etc... it was said that it came from key-loggers embedded into the ads they had on the site, but it was never 100% proven as far as I know.

As for your second point: I do not know this. I've never seen SE say that this app people are speaking of is approved. I'd heard of parsers, but had never even heard of this app up until the image arose with the GM telling the player it was against ToS. I've been seeing a few people say that it is approved by SE, but I have not seen then show any proof of this nor has SE responded to this tread saying that it is ok, or is not ok.

Now I am not saying that anyone is wrong or right. All i am saying is if SE said it was ok and the people that created this app are so adamant that SE did say it was ok, you would think that they would have something from SE saying so. If they did, they could simply post it and say 'told you so' and end all of this here.

And I do not feel that it is ludicrous for people to ask for confirmation of an approval from SE to make sure that they will not be banned/terminated and loose all of the work they have put into their account. It's called protecting ones investments. One can not simply get into a car accident and say, oh it's ok I have insurance, and not have the documentation to back it up. Anyway it's good business practice to always keep documentation of business transactions and/or deals made with companies a person is working with. If SE said Zam could allow people to use this app, I am sure that Zam has it in writing, they wouldn't risk on something like this and have it possibly damage their business.

I have to side with Peptaru on this one, and I think those against him (ie. Blowfin) are kinda missing the point.

Asking for proof doesn't necessarily mean someone is against parsers or anything.

I look at it this way, I trust Icehunter in that he did get word, I have been around the FFXI/FFXIV community long enough to know who the rep is. So I do trust him.

With that said, there is CLEARLY miscommunication going on on SE's end. That could be any number of things. Maybe the rep gave the ok when he shouldn't have. Maybe he gave the ok assuming it was under a don't ask don't tell policy. Maybe he gave the ok but didn't relay that to the gm team, maybe he did it only by word and that particular gm wasn't hired at this point. Maybe it is the gm's fault and he or she needs to know. Maybe it is really about the guy in the SS being a dick vs. using the parser. There are so many maybes I could go on for forever.

The big thing is, demanding for a response means it could clear up those maybes. Hopefully it would mean that no matter the outcome they address the gm team so they know what to do moving forward.

More importantly, if I were to get a gm on me I would want to be able to refer that gm to something official. I would want to be able to say, "hey we were made aware through the forums by a rep that parsers were ok." I'd like to be able to take it further if necessary with that proof.

Again, I have no doubt in my mind he got the OK, but saying to a gm "well the guy who made the parser is ok," is not going to be the same thing as saying "se's official reps gave the ok, you can read it here..."

There is zero harm in demanding this, and it could only help to prevent these incidents in the future.


As the the VPN quote people keep reposting: no that is simply not good enough. When the rep responding about vpns, he was only thinking about vpns. While, yes, parsers fall under some parts to what the rep said, it doesn't matter imo. He was just giving justification for said programs.

And think about it. Some may have missed it in this thread as it's moving fast but, VPNs are not approved in most games. Even Blizzard will ban you for using it as they consider it an unfair advantage. So why would SE ok it? Because this is a hugely dodge-intensive game. I am not going to sit here and deal with people yapping "oh it's the minority." Irrelevant. People are constantly making threads after threads about how the game is unplayable with the lag. VPNs are an easy fix to the problem, and it helps reduce cancelled accounts without SE having to pay an extra dime. VPNs give SE a huge benefit, so of course they were going to approve it. But it doesn't really sound good to say "hell ya! Use VPNs so you can stop bothering us!" So they made it sound more official.

Yet, again, I don't doubt that parsers also fall under that category, but I just don't think that's rep's response should be used as proof. I really would rather have something specific to parsers.


Oh, and before I forget, as to the addon situation, they planned on releasing a LAU packet forever ago, but even then addons would have to fall under certain requirements which we don't know what those are until they finally release it. Usually they have to be just UI stuff (which a parser is), but we won't know until they actually say it.

It's also possible that they have something but aren't allowed to put it up or clarify what it is until SE says they can. For example, if SE is putting together some kind of approval system for apps and has the participants use that as proof of approval, the app provider putting it up early has no meaning other than causing problems in their relationship with SE, which they're 100% not going to want to do in current circumstances.

Yeah. Simple, direct, and specific is the way to go. Don't count on the chain of translation & communication between the questions threads & Yoshi's ears not butchering any message that contains subtleties or multiple facets.
