I don't believe you can, which is one of the main issues I have. Regardless of whose fault it is, it seems that PS3 players can't really do anything to improve the situation - if I'm wrong about this, someone please tell me!

Except I don't see it being an issue honestly. You don't need millions to have a successful game, and SE knows this.Absolutely, this is the crux of the issue. My personal opinion is that word will continue to spread among those that have not tried 14, "Yeah it's cool... if you live in just the right place to get a decent connection." and those that are currently playing that are eventually going to get tired of it and leave. With the investment that Square has made into this title and the revenue it 'could' generate if it survives long enough to get some things worked out will in the long run outweigh the cost of moving the datacenter somewhere more stable for the playerbase. I know it will be a tough decision but it may be one that makes or breaks the future of Eorzea.

There actually is a way to route the PS3's connection through a VPN, but it requires a computer and the know how to do it.

I have yet to see a guide to do this that actually works. (I've tried a few guides)
At some point people (in general, not you necessarily) need to realize how ridiculous it is to expect their players to do this kind of roundabout way just to play their game.
If you put a game on a console, you need to compensate for the issues that are going to come with that console. And that doesn't mean expecting your playerbase to do all kinds of crazy things to it.
As others stated too, I love it when people say "SE DOESN'T NEED TO DO ANYTHING." But then talk about how they could split up the data centers.
Really though, it would be nice if they would say SOMETHING. "we are working with the ISPs." or anything. As others said, SE is going to have a lot more say in stopping these companies from throttling than we do.
I live in socal, and the issue with the tata communications hop was discovered over two months ago. Tons of people (myself included) have tried to get them to do something about it. Nothing has changed. So blaming the players is also foolish. We cannot control our ISPs outside of paying for a VPN.

Given the "lag and die" content of the game, this is a serious issue for a good portion of the community. But everything is solo content so it wont affect me. Oh wait...

FFXI- Seraph

Because their world servers are not in the same geographical locations, perhaps? What boggles me and what no one, player or Square, seems to want to touch is the reason why so many players that are dealing with these lag issues are able to play WoW, Rift, AoC, LotRO, TSW, etc., etc., etc. with no issues yet... they log into FFXIV and the lag is unplayable. Let us say for a moment that Square is not doing anything 'wrong' per se. So what are countless MMO companies the world over doing so 'right' that makes their games completely playable even in difficult twitch based end game? That I feel is the elephant in the room.
Earth's network is not SE's domain. Sure, they can take instances and push the limit on response times (like they have done for primal fights etc), but to do so on a massive level is neither practical nor necessary.
If a 3rd party tool can make the latency less apparent, that specific difference is something SE/other gaming companies is not responsible, or frankly, able to fix.
----------------SE network boundary ------------------------<international network>------------------------------------ local network boundary
SE Datacenter------------^------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------^-----------------You
This part:----->----------< Is SE's responsibility.
Long term possibility:
SE could cater to more people on the network end by adding more data centers apart from Japan and Quebec. I would wager that EU and (much later) AU would be the next ones in line for gaining their own shiny new data centers.

I think most of the people here who have read these topics and investigated the problem know how this all works. It's simply where do we go from here? Do we:
A: Subscribe to a VPN for X a month.
B: Change our ISP for the sake of XIV alone.
C: Unsubscribe and move on.
We're coming here for answers and hopes that SE can at least shed some light on this problem as the game is currently unplayable outside of crafting or using the Market Board, without the use of a VPN.

I just resubbed yesterday and the lag I have now compared to two months ago is a complete joke... I can't even run dungeons without the game pausing for 30 seconds at least twiceSame for FATE's.
The only thing I am able to do is sit in a city or in a sanctuary, anywhere else and the game just lags, even animations lag.
Never had this issue before... What changed?![]()
I've been getting really bad lag recently tooI never had this problem before, but it is really starting to make some content unplayable. A six second freeze on Garuda Ex is just about manageable. On Titan or Twintania though? It gives you no chance. I just wish there was some comment that they are at least looking into it.
As for people who are unsympathetic because they don't suffer from it, please try and see it from our point of view. Like I said I never used to lag at all and always used to think "it can't be that bad" when people would blame dying on lag time and time again, but it really can be terrible.
