One of the worst enemies of a MMO is power creep.
Hopefully the gear reset happens. It's one of the things that made me give up on WoW MoP, I've not raided ToT, so I'd be looking at a good 2 months before being able to kill Garrosh. Not worth it. Just unsub and come back next expansion.
So I'd have to grind to gear up all my 6 jobs again? Awesome. More things to do. I've not grown attachment to my gear, it wouldn't bother me to discard my Allagans.
While it's entirely tangential to the OP, this is something that has been bothering me for a while now. As someone who has not played an MMO with explicit iLevel before, I have a question to those who have. How do games usually handle level cap changes when adding new gear? iLevel from 1-49 is fairly reflective of the level you get it at. Green gives you ~+5, Pink gives you ~+3 etc. However, as things stand, once you reach 50, iLevel completely detaches itself from level and continues forward. Are we just going to have to get used to the idea of an infinitely divergent level gap between iLevel and level as time progresses?
Just wait till cap is 99, over ilvl 9000!!
So would new 50s be expected to continue to start with i55-i60 greens, darklight, CT in order to do the instances that drop i100? Or would it all be bypassed and fresh 50s would go from ~i45 gear at level 49 to earning i100 loot. The former makes me question whether or not the gear treadmill would burn a lot of people out, and the latter, well, just seems ridiculous.
Anyone who's played an MMO by now has got to realize that there will be expansions, and that new expansions will come with new gear that renders old "ultimate" gear obsolete or redundant. If you're VERY VERY lucky, a system may be implemented to upgrade the old gear to keep it superior (and even if they do, the system will probably be a horrible grind), but honestly you should resign yourself to the fact that while you may have Ultimate Build right now, it probably won't last.
People always complain, "I put SO MUCH WORK into weapon X, and now it's JUNK!" If they didn't see it coming, I gotta wonder what's going on in their heads... especially since folks are able to get fully decked in i90 gear after just four months of play! SE wants you playing for YEARS, and while some of that can be handled with new battles and environments, there will come a point where long-time players are asking themselves why they're going through all this stuff when the rewards are no better than what they already have. Pushing back the goalposts, giving folks new goals to strive for, is a tool for this, and if not abused can even be a good tool.
