Most walkthrough vids I see on YouTube are sped up so that you can't really see what's going on, while you're listening to a narration.

I'm not sure how many have had job training, but watching someone do a job really fast while they talk about it is not an effective way to learn how to perform a task. You might pick up a few things, but most people are not going to retain much. At a certain point you just have to do the job yourself and learn as you go. It sucks for the trainer, but the person getting the training will be stronger for it in the long run.

I just df'ed Garuda EX as an OT with some geared players from Gilgamesh last night and watched a vid right before the fight. Beat it on the second try, thanks guys! Thanks to the vid I was able to know the positioning of the add, what to do with the spiny plume, etc.

What is selfish is going into Duty Finder knowing you're unprepared for a fight, refusing to prepare for said fight and then thinking it's perfectly fine that everyone fails because you didn't know what to expect and keep dying. You might watch the video before hand and keep dying anyway but at least you tried.
And yet to ENTIRELY miss the point. Some people enjoy the challenge of the unknown. People like myself prefer to figure it out by ourselves. That unknown factor adds more challenge and fun to a fight, regardless of whether or not "it's the same strategy as in the video."

If you want a group that knows everything before hand, go use the Party Finder. Because The Duty Finder is likely to have a lot of people like me in it.

I enjoy the challenge of the unknown, and I'd prefer not to have my hand held like a child. By demanding we stop doing what we enjoy, to go watch a video, by taking away that element of surprise some of us enjoy, YOU ARE BEING SELFISH. You're telling us that we HAVE to play YOUR way.

If you cannot grasp this very, very simple concept, then I'm afraid this conversation is over, because you're clearly beyond help.

By it's very nature there is no accountability in the Duty Finder so people could completely ignore the needs of their party members and have this selfish attitude.
    Well put and interesting observation.

Possibly. Depending on the content. If its new probably, but if its been out for a few weeks, possibly not. Either way, I think at the very least if you have this mindset, you should have the courtesy of announcing in party before you start: "I'm here to learn the fight via trail and error. I refuse to watch vids. Hope you're all cool with that."

If you assumption is right they will all smile and say. "Let's do it together."

If not, you'll see something like this.
    "..."
    Kick him?
    Yeah

And you should be accepting of either response. Afterall, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

I'd say if the 7 other members of the party have watched videos and you're the one refusing to do it, you are the selfish one. You're telling the MAJORITY they have to play it your way.

Or as Size said, at least announce it at the beginning of the battle. Then everyone who doesn't want to waste their time can just leave.

But considering you're a fresh 50 in AF, I doubt we'll have to worry about you at the extremes/harder content anytime soon.

    inb4 THIS IS MY ALT.

Which really wouldn't surprise me, given the mentality of this generation of gamers. Gamers are always demanding more challenging content, and yet when it is given, most people wait for videos and then demand everyone go watch them. Then when people like me, real gamers who prefer real challenge, come along, we're baddies. I fail to see the challenge in copying what some guy in a video did. That would be because there isn't any. Watching a video degrades an otherwise challenging fight into a game of "Monkey See Monkey Do."

Give it time. I'm sure future MMOs will come with a mother-figure to hold everyone's hand while they fight all the tough bosses.

I don't think one should be "accepting" of being kicked for being new and not watching a video on the content before giving it a try. We should ask SE if that's what they had in mind when they put the kick feature in, or if they'd consider it abuse of said system. I for one am pretty sure it's the latter.

Okay, watch a video of Titan EX and beat it your first hour since you're saying it would take all the challenge out of it. Simply watching a video does not make the content easy.
