Why would someone play a tank if they don't like to play one? At the end of the day, the tank's job is the same regardless of how you do it; mark things, get their ire, get hit in the face (a lot). If someone doesn't like that with the current options, they won't like it with any new options.
Like Muzy said, the problem is more with the role itself and not the classes. Adding variety like an evasion-based tank or something would be interesting, but tanks will remain the least played role. Also, it sounds like you want a tank that can DPS as well. I've yet to see tanky DPS work out well in any game, as they invalidate either tanks or DPS or both.
Personally, I'd rather they expand on the depth of current jobs.
Agreed, make the most appealing jobs the ones that are in desperate need of numbers. Make Dark Knight a tank (equips flame resistant gear).

It sounds like you want a Tank class that somehow is a DPS but that's also still a meatshield, but that just doesn't seem like the dev team wants to make that at all. If they ever do make another Tank, it's going to be another class that does just as little damage as the current Tanks do (compared to DPS) and will probably have the same lack of appeal to people that wanna do high damage numbers.Like Muzy said, the problem is more with the role itself and not the classes. I didn't say I wanted a new Tank Class to somehow be a DPS that is still a meatshield. I guess you say that because I named Ninja and Viking as possible jobs. But we have very little Jobs to choose from that would make viable Tanks. No one wants DRK to be a Tank they want it to be DPS, We Have Defender, Templar, Parivir I mean there's not a lot to choose from for a Tank class unless SE came up with something new (god not Rune Fencer again).
I Chose Ninja Because the basics are already there and can pretty much be copied and pasted from FFXI. Viking just sounded like it would fit in the lore a little bit better with Ishgard Opening its gates soon (maybe 1st Expansion).
And that's the problem Playing PLD just isn't that fun in this game, You Mark stuff hit a few buttons and hope you healer keeps your ass alive.

FFXIV will never have a true support class unless they make it parties of five instead of parties of four. All the fights are tuned for 2 and 4 dps. Have 1 dps and a support would be gimp and having 3 dps and a support would be gimp.
This is why brd's do as much dmg as they do, they are a support hybrid.
Imo, the biggest flaw in this game is it's party sizes, they should be 5 for a small party and 10 for a full party. They should fix it to be so and retune all the fights for 5 and 10 people, and CT should be 30, not 24.
Really all they can do is release more DPS, Healers, and tanks atm. Most groups can't afford to lose 50% of a dps to gain a support.
Also are people considering that with 4 and 8 man party sizes, if they add a DPS job current dps will get shafted. The new job will be FOTM and everyone will want one or want to play one and many a smn, blm, etc will find themselves unable to find a party.
Really... the party sizes are to small to make job additions interesting.
If they add a new melee dps, imagine all the sad drg's and mnk's lol. Everyone will want/play the new melee dps, and because people only take 1 melee most the time..... yeah...

If another tank is added, I hope its a Disciple of Magic. You want unbalanced ratio: 6 to 3. Twice as many Disciples of War as there are Disciples of Magic. =C Need more magic.

maybe you won't, but I definitely will.
I Chose paladin in FFXI not because I wanted to tank, but because my favorite FF character in FF is Cecil Harvey (FFIV). I also leveled up Dark Knight for that reason as well. If they made DRK as a tank, I would certainly roll that just to be a DRK. If they make SAM a tank, I would do that because I really like Samurai's IRL. If they made a Viking-esque tank, or a mystic knight as a tank, I wouldn't play that because I don't really like either of those 2 classes, irrespective of the role it fills in game.
Conversely, I don't really like summoners or blms, but I do like DPSing. I don't think its fair to say that people won't play a tank if they make a new one.

wtb dancer as heal tank >.>
