We do have community representatives who's job it is to relay information between us and the devs.
How well they do that job is a mystery, however. As always, developer communication is laughable in an MMO. Looks like it'll take a massive drop-off of users to get them engaged as is usually the case.

Gramul buddy you been here a wile i have been here a wile ( Inigo Montoys beta 2.0 , Dark Reign Beta and V1 , Darkreign XI ) Reinheart gets us things before the DEVs do . The only thing the DEvs do here is delete posts and block opinions . unless a post takes wings and flies
Jack of all trades, master of none. Every MMO nowadays try to appeal to every type of gamer, and instead falls short of excelling at either.

Excellent post. I go back to that thing Yoshi said about the Lightning FATE event: in the past, SE's divisions were all separate but now they want to promote greater communication and collaboration between project teams. From reddit (credit goes to GrahamBelmont):
...
Does any of this make sense? Does anyone agree? Am I the only one that feels ARR's design comes off as incredibly backwards? I'm open to discussion and appreciate any civil comments whether they agree with me or not.
Well, it sounds like there's no communication going on WITHIN the FFXIV team itself. And if there is, it sounds like there isn't anyone at the top, whether Yoshi or his team leads, with a breadth of vision big enough to see the contradictions in some of their choices.

Eius in obitu nostro praesentia muniamur.

Agree with everything the OP said. Pretty much everything about this game screams that Sqenix barely has a clue.
Especially the worthless open world and crafting. I'm also tired of the red circles and dodging every 5 seconds as a primary boss strategy. When did MMO players become so dull witted that the game devs feel they need to actually put colored areas on the ground to tell us where not to stand??
And don't get me started on the latency issues. wtf?

I absolutely agree on the world front. I'm levelling Pugilist purely through leve's and fate's just to experience it more. I cannot even begin to count how many little cool places I found in FFXI, and even 1.0 has its quirks. It took me about three hours to travel 2.0's world on a bird and see everything, it's a genuine disappointment considering the pure size of 1.0's.

I think they should take the Deciples of the Hand & Land classes & give them a specialized job choice where you can only choose one of two jobs & then make that choice viable at level cap & "end game". Once capped, the job could have the choice of specialization. IDK... it seems that with everyone having the ability to do everything, the economy has nowhere to go but down.

The catch is... you are not japanese, so your opinion is ignored. Reps and devs only posts here to say "It won't be done".
Remember about the cat butts... the moment it was said in japanese, it got a response from the designer himself. Nevermind the english forums going on it for months.
