Quite simply really. They strangle the resources available to the instances available, based on the number of people they expect to utilise the instances. So, if they expected 1,000 people to use the instance and they only have 10 people to test, the reduce the resources available by a factor of 100, if the instance words poorly with only 10 people then they know they need more resources, if it works well, they know that it should hold up to 1,000 players.

Computers are pretty simple like that. Or they can do what they have done with XI and open a test server, a sneak peek at what is coming and measurable, mass testing of future content.

Simply responding does not require satisfaction. Square could have simply told the player base to eat them, they'll do what they want. That would be a response that I doubt would satisfy anyone... wait, they already did that.

hmmm...could it be because SE's whole thought process on the housing system is broken right down to the foundation? (pun)

This is the only MMO I've seen where the hardware continues to be such a limiting factor...... :-/

That tends to happen when the response is just as insulting.

Get real SE and get your crap together. Housing implementation and plan is embarrassing.

How do you expect people to take it when the company completely insults their own players intelligence?

Uh, hop on the test servers and test how many houses they can handle. And then make sure they can handle enough to accommodate all the people currently playing the game, at the very least. We're not goddamn beta testers. They're not some indie developer. This game is one of their biggest cash cows and they're a major game developer. They should have this crap all worked out. Or at least be relatively close to having it worked out when they release something. Obviously they weren't even remotely close or else they wouldn't have made the prices so prohibitively expensive to where there isn't a second instance of any ward, at least on my server. I'd assume the same goes for all legacy servers, and most non-legacy as well. For them to be so grossly unprepared for such a heavily advertised feature is outright shameful.

And Yoshi did say something along the lines that 3-5 people going 1-50 would be able to afford a house, and we heard no other info about pricing besides that till the day before the update. We were never once told that housing would be the most 'hardcore' thing in the entire game that the overwhelmingly vast majority of players wouldn't be able to experience until many months after the update that introduced it. Yet it was constantly being advertised in the live letters like it was something we all should be looking forward to. That is misleading.

While it's cool they are lowering the prices for Legacy servers to what non legacy servers are, they really need to lower the prices for non-legacy servers further anyway. On Diabolos right now, there are a whooping 3 houses bought. All of them are small houses (just.. no.. ..Why?) and it's 1 in each housing area (mists, goblet, etc.) out of all the wards available.

Reducing the legacy servers amounts to what ours are currently at does only 1 thing, makes it easier for Legacy server FCs to obtain housing due to their already huge influx of gil. It doesn't do a damn thing to fix the issue us Non-Legacy servers have with far less gil on our servers.

Don't get me wrong, there are some folks with stupid amounts of gil that took advantage of early crafting and philosophy tome materials because they powered through levels first thing. So what, the rest of the normal people get punished because we didn't take advantage of things early on and didn't rake in the gil from the stupid people who bought gil? Because we didn't sell Titan runs first for hundreds of thousands of gil, we must suffer to wait forever before we have the gil to obtain even a medium sized house?

    Yeah, no thanks.

I am just hoping they drastically reduce the pricing for when single player housing is released so that it's actually something affordable that a single player can buy without spending a full year just trying to make and save gil. Which btw is actually harder now since Philosphy tomes drop like rain and the prices on the mats are stupidly low due to the increase and ease in which you can obtain them. What once sold for 50k, then lowered down to 25k before 2.1, is now like 8k and will of course only drop more as time progresses. So making money that way isn't what it used to be. Sure you can still make some gil, but it's going to take way longer than before to even get near making the same kind of income through that means.

And why buy crafted armor and weapons when you can run CT, buy DL with ease, and run all the other content and obtain equal or better gear than what is crafted. Crafted items are a joke since there's nothing really on par with Myth, Allagan, and even CT gear.

Prices for housing are still too high.

Well, at least they realize how egregious the pricing is. Kind of a half-assed way to answer it, however. Especially because, when you get down to it, this mistake caused players to realize they can control the price at the end of the day. Housing is something they've been hyping up for several months now. It needs to be successful, because it's taxing on the servers, so one goddamn house per instance isn't going to cut it. So they'll lower the price more and more until they get people using the housing addition.

As long as the vast majority continues to stand there and refuse to buy this overexpensive nonsense, they'll have no choice but to continue lowering the price, or get rid of housing altogether.
