I don't think its the worst, I think your just blaming that on personal experience.
Your point could be made with fewer words.
Because it's nothing good out until sometime next year. =T
On topic: This is my first p2p game so I figured the economy would be a little different, but this is awful. I guess this is what happens when you make a game catered towards casuals, somethings NEED to be a bit challenging and hard to get.
I think her question should be, "Why DO we pay to play this game again?"Because it's nothing good out until sometime next year. =T

The name Final Fantasy has so many reasons behind it, it almost met its FATE(no pun intended) back in 2010 but rose up to the occasion that it was going to change.
The critique was getting better though it was still 1.0 but I would've thought of still playing it even if SE hadn't switched out the DEV team and rebuilt the game. Technology has gotten cheaper and better but this game has attracted even more issues since 2.0 was launched than anytime during the old XIV era.
Why do I pay for this game? As of now, I don't anymore but I don't wanna be gone for to long. I need to try out the content and evaluate the pros and cons of the system. My heart will always be with 1.0 and I don't think it would've done any more or less harm now id the DEVs would've stayed the same.
What interest me the most is the new world we play in, not just the content. The after-math is so FFVI that I'm glad they came up with it but it was also an excuse to replace and rebuild and not for the sake of independence. FF should be in a class of it's own... as of now, that's gone out the window.

still wouldnt matter nothing will sell if its not needed. this game you buy from NPC'si think they should just make it to where you choose a specialization. two for DoH, one for DoL. and any other gathering or crafts you choose other than your specializations, you cant make or obtain the highest level items. i think that could help a little since not everyone could gather or craft everything and never needing another person, never needing the market board at all.
It doesn't take a Disciple of the Hand nor the Land to realize that the economy is completely dead. With 3 DoW/DoM classes at 50 I've never had to spend money on anything except from NPCs. There has never been any kind of incentive to buy from crafters, as any gear purchased would be quickly replaced. Leveling a job to 50 takes very little time, and dungeon gear is readily available. Once 50 is achieved, the abundance of ways to obtain gear other than crafted, as well as the fact that crafted is not on-par with end-game gear, effectively kills all end-game crafting.
My standpoint:
Instead of dropping equipment in every single dungeon for almost every boss, how about they drop crafting materials? Crafters can make equipment, which could then be sold on the market. Don't need the gear in the dungeon? Sell the materials on the market.
Making almost every piece of equipment dropped in dungeons UNTRADABLE while providing stats that match or surpass crafted items of their level means there is no reason to buy crafted items.

So uh...Not to play devil's advocate, but outside of buying a house, what's the point of even having a lot of money in this game? There's no real "required" gold sinks.
I feel like a lot of people who complain about this, people just want to have money for the sake of having money.
miners can't make gil because of bots
When crafters start to become a factor where you either have crafted gear or fail, THAT is what will kill the game. Don't think people are kind enough to make prices of those items available to everyone. When progression through raids becomes capped by crafters and market manipulators, the age of RMT dominance and pay to win begins. Sorry but when more people give up and quit or start resorting to RMT, the game dies.
