Gear still has its place, though I do agree about a good HQ crafted gear set should be the best. If coil dropped crafting components or something to make the best armor instead of it dropping that would have been nice. Still crafted gear still serves many uses while people are gearing up, and with 1 lot per week on crystal tower its not exactly effecient to jump into the ilvl 80 gear. I imagine they have many plans to fix this. we cant change our current endgame gear setup. Still there are plenty who love a good HQ set of gear with Materia. I am not saying our current setup is perfect, I am merely stating that our economy will function fine.

The basic problem here (at least that's what i think) is that the game seems to have been designed by two completely oposed teams... wich, in a way, it has.

-The gear, battle and leveling progress system is that of a Themepark mmo.
-The crafting and gathering systems are what you would expect to find in a Sandbox mmo.

Those two are just not compatible.

I main a warrior on Tera, I love that combat so much. The Gear progression is pretty good I will admit, I remember going from NT, to Abyss, to Mayhem to Wonderholme, to now Nightforge. That game can get a bit grindy though

You pretty much got the idea of it, It really depends on what 2.2 brings for gear progression if we can tie crafting into the gear aspect of the game.
high end mats turned into gear would not be a bad idea, or a crafted +1 version of best dungeon dropped gear.

I dont really expect to see a bost in crafted gear until they raise the level cap (wich acording to yoshida was planned for whenever they introduce Ramuh).
However, Yoshida has also said that the best gear in the game will always be obtained directly through dungeons because he doesnt like the idea of getting the best items just by farming gil.

That wouldnt be so bad if dungeons were not the only endgame content. People will be doing them anyways because there's literally nothing else to do so... they'll eventually get their gear with no need for crafted one.

I was a Berserker, and a supplier from Manaya's Core Hard. I end up quitting because I had run MCH 97 to get my visionmaker axe and just got sick of only having 1 worthwhile dungeon.

I think the important thing with Tera's economy was the way they got that cycle in for players at the top buying from those on the bottom and vice versa.

This MMO has the worst economy of any MMO I've ever played in my entire life. FFXI had by far the best. I could farm many things to make gil, i could do many forms of content and even merc things to make gil. So many different enemy drops in many different zones had a use and sold for nice amounts of gil, I had ways at all levels to make a steady income of gil. I have absolutely zero idea how to make gil in this game outside of running dungeons over and over and over and over and over.......

No idea how you go from a game that's fun to make gil to a game that makes me want to kill myself making gil. I'm sitting at 3m gil and I'm scared to spend 10k on something because I have absolutely no idea how to make that gil back.

Their huge fear of RMT is what caused this imo, too many things in place that punish players more than RMT and actually make RMT thrive.

To elaborate on this some. I type it out maybe in an email that way I can paste the first paragraph post then edit and paste the rest. Honestly I have no clue why they bother making a "limit" when you can just edit and post over the so called limit.

The market is terrible in ARR because everything is too easy to obtain and you level up way too fast across all classes There is no challenge in getting most materials and then you have things like 2 star Alchemy recipes that are given away for free on so many quests and chests. Yoshida seems to want it that way, yet he puts a ridiculous price on housing, lol. He clearly knows what he's doing in terms of battle content. However, when it comes to everything else...he just doesn't.

If people want to pay 13 bucks a month to pick flowers and sell them on the AH, fine by me. I personally don't see the point to MMO economies. You'd get rid of most of the hackers if you'd just get rid of economies. I'd rather spend my time doing dungeons and raids and pvp and events than having farm gil for items which will never be as powerful as the content gear. Nor should those items ever be a requirement to do content.

You'd rather play $13/month to do the same dungeon 10 billion times?

Picking flowers isn't how I made gil in games with a good economy.
