Summoner also has the highest burst in the game. The class is too well rounded and applies too much pressure and damage for the insane support it brings.

Ehh I dont know where you got this info from but this isnt true. Summoner is a stream dmg class NOT a burst class. They are the best AoE stream dmg class in the game.
Dragoons have the highest burst/spike dps in the game. Monks are the highest single target dps class. and Black mage is the highest aoe burst dps class.
I just had to inform about this. cause when it comes to single target burst Summoner doesnt stand a change in terms of sheer dps against a dragoon or a monk. I mean heck even a black mage is better in terms of dps. But summoner are more aoe stream dps. so continious dmg is what they are built to do.
I mean look at all them dots and dot buff skills.
But yeah they shuld get nerfed in pvp since they can woop the ass off everyone when played correctly.
That is all.
This thread is months old. Summoners have already been nerfed (have lost their heavies and swiftcast ressing). (I play BRD/SMN/BLM) And summoners definitely have "burst", they also have the ability to apply constant pressure on the healer through bane (dots on all opponents), the only problem is setting up for it. Summoners are fine now, as are all other classes. Despite people saying the PvP in this game sucking, the classes are at least fairly balanced compared to other games with PvP. And before anyone says anything about 30 second sleeps, no they aren't that big a deal.
Anyways, let this thread RIP. If you want to discuss summoner PvP make a new thread or post in PvP forums.

Firstly summoner is nerfed now compared to how they were when this thread started
However as a summoner you can easily burst down almost any class if you have all your cooldowns ready. Raging strikes, intel pot, and then dot up, fester, energydrain, pop all pvp damage skills, buffed enkindle and you've killed a healer in 3 seconds.
The problem is that once the cooldowns arent ready you can't do very much until they're up again.
Dotting up in pvp is not that easy as u think if you are talking about 1v1. Once you have dots up, opponent can use purify that and clear all dots. And it is pretty hard cast dots if opponent tunneling you. Even if you cast during surecast or equanimity you can be stunned or silenced or knock backed. Summoner kiting abilities are pretty poor also, you have only swiftcast tri-disaster and garuda knockback with 1½min cd + blizzard 2. And if some little better player see you are using swiftcast they can predict and use fetter ward before you successful cast your bind. Sprint is good against tanks, but other melees can remove it. And even tanks can use sprint + enliven or sprint + tp potion + marauders can use sprint + invigorate. Most effective way 2 do 1v1 is spam energy drain bio and ruin2 + pet rouse spur + endkindle and running around and hope they do not know how 2 use camera lock target, but if they use camera lock, there is no way you can escape. Summoner is good in the frontlines only because they usually get ignored and players usually let them freely cast dots for every living thing.

Of course there are weaknesses, 300+ frontlines games as a summoner should teach me that. However I can almost solo anyone 1vs1 with all my cooldowns up. Monks and marauders are the hardest ones though but it is possible. I'm just saying summoenr has one of the best bursts in the game
Sorry, I couldn't stay awake.
These are my feelings exactly. Our primary tools, dots, aren't devastating on their own, but are a means to an end. It's just that getting those three dots off can be difficult if we aren't ignored. Since this thread was created, Dragoon was buffed and Ninja was released. A Dragoon that knows what they're doing will stun lock a player and wipe off 2/3rds of their HP before they can react. A Ninja will poof out of nowhere, stun and silence and wipe out 2/3rd of a casters HP. We have to hope and pray to get off three dots. THEE DOTS. That's five seconds of casting. And then hope and pray some more that those dots aren't purified before we can begin doing damage. This is the balance players wanted?
