High housing costs = server gil reduction

The sky is falling I know!

I was initially shocked by the housing prices. Especially on the legacy servers.

Then I thought a little deeper on the reason behind such high prices. Is SE trying to reduce the vast amounts of wealth being horded by players? Can this be a short term inconvenience become a long term boon for each server economy?

If a FC on a legacy server must have large housing on day 1 and they are able to afford the staggering entry price. That gil is lost and gone forever. That gil will not go back into circulation, it's not being exchanged to another player. This is a huge gil sink.

Even on non-legacy server the destruction of gil from housing purchases might have a positive effect on the economy in the long run. As over time as more and more FC are able to afford what ever size housing, vast amounts of available gil will be taken out circulation.

Even after 90 days on the market housing is still expensive on some servers, SE might possibly revise housing costs with each version update (approx. 90 days apart) reflecting the current gil in circulation on each server.

That's one of the nice things about an evolving game, things change, this also gives long term goals for FCs that can't buy a tract on day 1.

What vast amounts? Some of us barely had 30 mil which became 3 mil in 2.0 so we don't see that as vast even now. In fact some are still ticked off SE punished 1.0 players for going out and mining, gathering, crafting and selling the fruits of our labours to earn our gil. Sure there were a few at gil cap because they didn't do anything but make money or ppl that were 100mil plus, so let's punish them further by making housing so expensive only the remaining super rich can buy. The rest of us will continue to the inn rooms. WTB ffxi's mog house idea? At least that was free.

I agree with Yoruichi. I think SE has vastly misjudged how much gil the player's have (excluding the 1%) -- it's as though they just looked at server gil in total (and didn't account for how much of that is RMT) and went, "well, ok, we wanna reduce that amount by 80%", rather than looking at the average FC and how much gil they held and setting them a reasonable goal to achieve in 90 days time. My FC, a fulltime, legacy FC with 10 dedicated members, can literally scrape together the 10 mil needed for a small house in 90 days. That's absurd. It feels like it's been set up so that only one FC per server could possible buy the largest 1st class house, and in doing so, this would essentially require the majority of that server's gil.

Yoshi would do well do post a Letter detailing the statistics and figures they've used to justify these costs.

Guys, are you not forgetting that 2.1 housing is for FCs? _Free_ _Companies_. Not Individuals.

Is there any FC with over 200 active constantly playing characters that are willing to hand over 2-3 mil to 1 character in hopes he won't be like "cool i got 500m, server hop!", I doubt we will see any houses purchased other than the small ones... The cost isn't just high, it is stupid, that amount of money collected and given to one. I've been in several FC's and non of them had more than about 70 at most who were on every day even though they had 200-300 in, most quit.

You could almost entertain the idea that SE is trying to punish those who actually put in the effort to earn gil in a legit manner. They should've left our gil intact from 1.0 and then the housing prices would be seen as more affordable than they are atm. I'm not saying they are affordable I'm just saying how they would look if SE had left our 1.0 gil as it was w/o reducing it to 1/10th what it was. We would love to thank SE for nerfing our hard earned work at times.

A Small free company is usually made from:

1- Small group of friends who play casually.
2- Small group of endgame runners who play in static party.
The first group will not be able to afford a small house in many months in my server, the second one most likely wont even consider buying a small house because it's throwing money for a house that's little bigger than a fking toolshed.

The problem here is not the big house price It's the fact that the toolshed-size houses are out of reach for maaaaany small companies. There's no "Enjoy housing and work towards a better house with a bigger garden" its a "donate 5 million per member" situation.

Add to that the fact that they lied, because they did, saying that 2 or 3 people could save their gil from lvling their first class from 1 to 50 to buy a small house and that just upsets people.
    You want to deny that?
Feel free to do it, wont make it less true tho.

    No.

The less people you engage in the feature, the less the gil sink is effective.

As they are, the current prices won't nearly engage enough people in the feature to be an effective gil sink.

The FC I am in has well over 100 active members. We have collected over 10million in last 24 hours. We are on a lower pop server where prices of things have stayed pretty low and we are not having problems collecting large amounts of gil.
