I didn't play XI but I know this from other MMORPGs and I do kinda miss the option of it in this game. The closest thing is trying to organize groups to go get all the 49 FATEs in beastman lairs done out of curiosity, but there's no significant incentive to do such more than once other than for the heck of it.

i like this idea and also bring back the high level zones like in 1.0 where its actually dangerous to go even super geared because that lv 67 raptor will eat your face.^^

I'm glad a majority of people are in favour of this.

Maybe, just maybe it'd get raised to the developer's attention. It's not something I'm expecting to happen in the slightest, but it's good to just turn a few heads, y'know? Bring back those little things that made FFXI so special. I'd love to have them in FFXIV.

*remembers Wings of the Goddess zones and the fantastic idea of going into the past*

Dem beastman strongholds in the past...

Not to derail - but I think it might be helpful to frame this in the terms of "classic" MMO style, rather than "XI" style. Reason- there is a lot of blanket hostility to XI, and for many of us, we experienced/enjoyed this gameplay in games other than XI.

I think it is also worth noting, for those who do not think this style would appeal to them- there is room for having this style in addition to the current style of play- it doesn't have to be all or nothing.

Everyone keep in mind this game is still kinda young. Now with the money from subs and a platform that they can expand upon, maybe they can make content like this. For all the love for XI can someone tell me what map content was in the original XI?

I recently re installed 11 for the free window of play (til dec 23) and there are tonnns of expansions and tons of areas. If i remember right, rise of the zilart added the northlands as well as many of our favorite zones.

I agree that the game doesn't really have much in the way of adventuring... Some of the most fun I had in FFXI was exploring area's I didn't even know existed! I remember being in Battalia Downs and seeing an island out to sea which had a treant on it, and I thought "I'm going to work out how to get to that island" so i ran around for a few hours in eldieme necropolis until I found the path that lead there, it was really fun finding little things like that, stuff that was surplus and didn't really serve any purpose other than just to be an explorable area. I think it will come with time though.

bots are all over the place already. people already BS through content buying & selling wins thats a monopoly to FC/LS's. more content & places to do things outside an instance is always better. you cant always find a group /shout, you dont have to wait 30min+ like the DF.

"Instancing the dungeons ensure a fair risk/reward balance." thats a lie you enter instance then one guy decide to AFK, or another guy drops party due to raging. already was a post about someone mad about losing a need/greed. there will always be good and to everything.

I've played both games, I can tell you the power RMT has in FFXIV is a tiny fraction of the problems FFXI had up to the Chains of Promathia. Prices are affordable for gear all the way to 50, materials needed for crafting don't bankrupt me either. It doesn't matter to me that bots teleport between gather nodes because I'm able to gather without interference. If I need to kill monsters for important quests I don't have to worry about other players killing everything because of the instance. When I explore the dungeons, I actually fight the "random encounter" monsters (trash pulls) instead of relying on sneaking past all of them. Running away in any previous FF game was an offense punished by lost GP and less experience to fight the bosses with.

Unlike HNMs where the giant linkshells or hackers controlled the claims and the loot, instances ensure I earn the gear; level synching preventing me from cheesing away all the challenge. Fights also no longer depend on me bringing specific classes to use 2 hour abilities it win (oh wait, we didnt win that time, wait 2 hours to try again!). Likewise I don't need to rely on what were overpowered through use of money classes (Ninja tanks and ranger damage). Yes "some" people sell titan hard runs, but I got my relic weapon from what was a shout pickup in Mor dhona, my attempts learning the fight likewise cost me nothing and didn't require me to be sitting in town until I got everyone wrangled. If someone AFKed in a FFXI group it was even more devastating because replacement could takes hours instead of seconds the DF gives me, not counting the 20 mins that could be spent in travel time. The Solo dps DF queue could be long, but at least I could craft, gather, or open world EXP while I waited, queuing with one tank or healer friend makes the wait pretty fast.

@Doo: people buy gil, but so what? The best that gets them is fast travel and some nice crafted gear that I can get the same or better at any level. FFXI I needed to pay 300k gil at level 20 to get leaping boots to be "party worthy".

I bet everyone constantly has their blacklist full in this game. Never been spam so much in FFXI nor needed to blacklist gold spammers.

So what?! So I stop getting the constant spams! It's annoying to have to block gold spammers every minute and camp against them when farming for fleece or whatever. Your issue in FFXI is make belief.

The world is extremely boring and static in this game. The thing is, there are plenty of encampments that seem to be not used at the moment that seem like open world dungeons.. I really hope they utilize that in a future update.

Open world stuff ftw. Get me out there are EXPLORING around, running into danger, not knowing what will happen next.

Open world is pretty boring currently. They need to do something to energize it. Perhaps treasure hunting will help somewhat? Still missing out on Chocobo Escorts and whatnot.
