Hit by an AOE I was never in?

I already know well about lag issues and such, where people get hit by AOEs even though they've walked out of them.

However, while doing a dungeon today, one of the mobs had a cone AOE. I was well out of the red box range from the start because I was standing back while healing.

AOE went off and... I got hit. I'm a bit confused by this one because on my screen I was never in the red box. Luckily, it was just a small monster so it wasn't really a big deal, but how could something like that happen? I wasn't even moving, so it shouldn't have registered me as being in a spot I was never in.

Server latency works in funny ways. Was the boss ever close enough to you/facing in the direction you were in that you could have been in the aoe before he started casting it on your screen? Depending on how bad the latency is on your end for fights, a skill could have gone off server side before you even see the animation for it. Game is wonky like that :/

They're trying to address it though. Other than that I don't know. I've never heard of someone being hit when they were never near the vicinity of an AOE at all, so I'm not sure of a cause.

I've had plenty of issues with lag before, but this was the first time I had this happen. Or at least the first time I've noticed it, because I had a pretty clear view of where the box was and where I was.

It seems like something that almost shouldn't be possible to have happen. It was strange.

I had that happen to me on last weekend during prime-time. Mind, the lag was so bad eventually I got disconnected, it wasn't just isolated weirdness.

It was Brayflox and just one of the wyrm-types. I think a muddrake (spelling?)

Like I said, no big deal because it was a little mob.

Network latency is understandable and expected. My problem with this game, and Titan HM in general, is that the game requires precise movement with very little if any error, or else game over, seems like it could be a little more forgiving due to the nature of the interwebs etc. would make the game more enjoyable rather than frustrating IMO. It's like they've made fights hard due to latency rather than skill... seems like a cheap shot on us.

That's the main thing keeping me from playing quite a bit of the game. It seems like if you don't have a great computer and connection you end up kind of screwed. I think it was a pretty poor choice of design on their part because it emphasizes the weakness of the game rather than the strength, and a lot of people end up dying because of things that can literally be completely out of their control.

I hadn't been particularly laggy for this one and I hadn't seen something quite that bad happen before, so it was a bit confusing and worrisome (imagine if it had been one of those one-hit kills! That would have been majorly frustrating).

The visibly worst example I've seen is the "Moldy Phlegm" move from the Goobbue in WP. The animation is so incredibly delayed that you can be at the other side of the room when it actually 'hits' you.

I've had this happen to me just this week. I thought it was just me since I'm using a new modem and with a new isp.
