Do you guys like the Instadeath mechanic?

I've never really played an MMO that had this much instant death. It seems like every single boss has at least 1 - 3 AOE's that will instantly kill you if you don't avoid them. With the fact that healers can battle rez an infinite number of times, it makes me wonder if this is what SE wanted. Adding in death and battle raises as an actual mechanic. If that is the case, then it's a stupid mechanic, IMO. People simply do not like it when you die. Not only that, but people in general do not like to die. Add in the .3 second delay and you're going to be dying a lot... especially if you're melee DPS (I'm a DRG).

I played WOW for years followed by SWTOR and I've never had issues like I do in this game. The AOEs all seem to be on super fast cast timers and even when you think you're out, they still end up hitting you half the time. Most of the time, it feels like I'm trying to avoid instadeath over anything else. Which just isn't fun to me.

With that said, I like dancing around the battle field and avoiding things... I just wish the game had better location detection and I also wish more AOEs would simply do major damage instead of killing you instantly (I went into Hydra yesterday, and right as the fight started, it cast the frontal AOE, I ran around out of the red... and died a good distance away.). I'd rather the healers have to heal than worry about 4 or 5 battle raises through out the fight.

As you gear up the mechanics get more forgiving with regard to instant death, because your HP pool increases drastically.

With regard to damage out of the red zone, I thought it was just how the game was, and my reactions were just not fast enough, until I tried a proxy service (Battleping) and now what I see on the screen is what I get.

SE: "Ok, How about we make it to were every boss can instantly kill you? Like... alot?"
SE2: "People won't like that... What if we make it an AOE so we can 'technically' claim that it's avoidable?"
SE1: "But, people won't die as much that way! I WANT DEATH AND CARNAGE!"
SE2: "Well, lets implement a .3 second delay! This way, the AOEs will be extremely difficult to avoid! Deaths all around!"
SE1: "Well, people will still complain... How about we let them battle rez all they want?"
SE2: "Hmm... I don't like it. Well, fine.. lets just make it to were the player raised will be frozen for 3 or 4 seconds, that way they will die again to the AOEs before they can even move!"
    SE1: "DEATH!! I mean... DEAL!!"

It might be just rumors (I don't have a source) but I heard that they are improving the detection to have a higher accuracy in raid/dungeons instances soon.

There was also a lot of 1-shot kills within SWTOR as I remember (and WoW but my knowledge is from long ago), stepping on mines, fall damage during Soa, Kephess in general. I still remember the massive amount of complaints of people bouncing back into circles during Toth and Zorn because of lag there as well. It just improved as the number of raids running it dropped over time.

    Always remember the Silver Rule:
"Treat others as they treat you!" ...or something like that.

I'm pretty sure most bosses do not actually have insta-death mechanics. They have high damage attacks and AoEs, but I've seen very few insta-death mechanics.

Its sort of like playing your favorite 90's shooter (Gradius, Rtype) MMO style. Or especially some of the older pattern shooters like Sanxion or Delta Patrol. Just memorize and you're good to go.

One thing to note. Repeating pattern twitch fights get repetitive and boring quick. Battles that require strategy are fun each time you play because the fight is different every time. I feel like today's twitchy insta-death fights are somewhat of a fad. Hope someone figures out how to make fights exciting but feel new and different each time.

Pretty much this. If you're running into "instadeath," I think it's usually the case that you need to either gear up so you can take the hits better, or learn rotations so that you can dodge the moves better.... though I agree sometimes the dodging is a little unreliable due to the delay. Battleping has made a world of difference for me, it feels like I have 5 minutes to get out of Titan plumes now~
