I'm on PS3. I don't think Square wanted to add voice chat for the simple fact that it would be a pain in the rear. In any case, I'm looking for a Free Company that DOES use voice chat, as I'm all about having fun and being a team player. Being able to talk while casting is not only more efficient, it's fun. It's the reason I wanted to play an MMO. At any rate, if anyone would be so kind as to let me join they're presumably awesome voice chatting company, that would be most excellent! Just send me a message on here or in game. Preferably in game.

It is convenient nothing more. I have never played an MMO with coms and none of the guilds/linkshells i have been in ever required it. We completed content just fine. If you are aware of your surroundings and you know what is going on and trust the people you are playing with then it isn't essential.
Stating it is required is just lies. Plenty of people play without it and do just as well as people who do use them.

People like to make others play the way they want. So naturally people who cannot be bothered to type will insist on people needing to use something.
So in other words, you have never raided any hard content, gotcha.

As i have said many times. I never said it didn't make things easier but it isn't impossible to clear any content without coms.
People who use the "you are not level 50 argument" really need to think before using it. Is FFXIV now the hardest MMO ever made? I had no problems in any of the others i have played over the years.
Most people require you to know what the fight requires anyway before stepping in, so you already know what is going to kill you, unless of course you just happen to be one of the first going through it which as you pointed out, i am not.

The problem is it isn't SE's responsibility to monitor what players decide is a requirement. I can't even see them being able to change that besides having in-game voice, which would still require the player on a console to have additional peripherals.

Personally, I don't like VoIP. I played FFXI for years (without end-game content, admittedly) without it, and in my experience it has rarely been required. I use it now because I actually really like my FC and enjoy hanging out with them, but it annoys me when it's an absolute requirement for people.

The game is not that hard to require voice chat. Everyone just needs to know the fight... Info for coil is everywhere already.
People just don't want to pay attention.

Hell, the game even gives you macros with sound effects and 2+ seconds to type in between skills.

Yep. But the fact is. Unless ur in a party who are either really experienced. Or superhuman gamers who can figure out and clear coil the first time around by just watching videos and reading guides, which we all no is nonexistent, u will more than likely wipe and disband.

Seriously get into coil in this game and tell me that dealing with the mechanics via chat is as effective as over comms.

I use a razer orb weaver and naga to play with, I have also raided in EQ for 10 years using chat. I don't use a keyboard to type it's a crutch, the only rule in my FC is mumble. It's 2013 I am not dealing with chat anymore

The issue here is not the Pc players vs console player part. I have seen both using and not using voice chat.

The issue is pro voice chat vs. those who do not use voice chat. And that has been the case for years now in the MMO world and it has not killed of anyone or made anyone feel as an outsider. This is not really as big of a problem as you are making it sound like.

As someone who mixes voice chatting with not voice chatting I can say both are viable and you can beat any content with or without it. It is pretty easy typing in whatever you want to type in in the middle of combat as it is usually only stuff like "transport mob" and "dodge that fireball" etc. etc. That you can easily type in in less than 1 sec if you can type.

The issue is more that people do not want to separate from an advantage they usually have, but that is for another post. I think we can settle this saying: Voice chat is not needed. There are those prefering it and there are those who do not. I welcome and accept both options. Out of experience of both I can say the results are almost on pair, yes w/voicechat it usually goes better, but that is more the players than the fact that they use voice chat as most h-cores prefer using voice chat while newer players do not want to dedicate themselves as much. Also, this is a non-problem. Both groups will find likeminded people to join forces with.

    Assorted musings:

Blizzard did make a PC game for console.

FFXI has been called 'too hardcore' with 'stupid long difficult fights' yet people played on PS2 and XB360 without issue for years.

It is straight up harder to talk to people in FFXIV than it was in FFXI. I dont know what it is about the chat settings, maybe mine aren't adjusted just right, but in ffxi, typing was a breeze and didn't get in the way of anything. Now if i don't do it just right, I've opened 15 menus and set fire to Gridania.

This whole PC only vibe is new for SE MMO's. For years we blamed PS2 folks for holding back the game graphically and such as the hardware could only support so much, but to say they shouldn't play at all?
Where the hell did this exclusionary attitude come from?

    And finally.

Pick a damn standard voice chat application. My FC has Mumble(1). When I played EvE we used TS3(2), some use Skype(3), way way back when I was a competitive BF2 player (for money even, and ranked tournaments) we used Ventrillo(4).

There is no reason everyone should be expected to have 4+ VoIP applications depending on the random group.
