That's quite possibly the worst suggestion I've heard in quite some time. Oh well, consider the source...

I agree. One of the main reasons that I played FFXI and currently play FFXIV is because I have the ability to use a controller and sit back/relax rather than be hunched up to my keyboard and mouse.
They could use a little more love when it comes to the controller interface though. It is pretty damn good considering, but there are situations that are not as streamlined as they could be, though I would wager that these will be addressed before the PS3 release.
I use a Gamestop branded USB PS3 controller and it works amazingly (despite the poor reviews of the controller). Since its USB it doesn't require any special drivers, and has the added bonus of the extra "PS" button (versus a PS2 controller) which works perfectly for me as my engage/disengage combat button.

I tried using an Official PS3 controller, but no matter what drivers I found, I always had an issue with the controller powering on and syncing with my PS3 unless I unplugged it (in which case it works fine, but is a hassle to do every time)
The game needs a ton of gamepad optimizations... I suggest /stop... maybe it has already been suggested. dunno. I hate the hotbar though. I wish it dead. The main reason I chose XIV is gamepad support...
