I'd say that dalamud was basically the size of the Death Star in star wars, and that Bahamut only just fits inside it.

well it seems pretty clear his body was torn into pieces so you can't use their locations in coil to determine anything.
based on the size of his hand and the proportion of his hands to the rest of him in the CG scenes he's got to be like the size of a city pretty easily.
but it also appears there is allagan technology implanted in his head at the end of coil and the weird little elf girl says something cryptic about him so it may be the parts in coil are an artificial bahamut or some such thing.
the allagan empire does seem to be on the "we can surpass the power of gods" sort of people from what little bits you learn of them.
It also doesn't really make sense that he breaks free from his prison in dalamud to shortly end up torn to pieces underground in an allagan facility being worked on by allagan devices with no real in between story at all.
I havn't been in T5 yet so I havn't seen the dialogue if Alisaie says anything...but don't forget Bahamut is the Elder Primal. Just because his body is torn to pieces does not mean he's dead. There was also the loud roar of Bahamut heard across Eorzea as the main story came to an end (I'm assuming it was him, not sure what else would make that kind of sound).
The most beautiful man to grace the Final Fanty, attractive and goodlooking girls please send me a message in game. Must be attractive and goodlooking. Thanks.

If Bahamut had not been 'chopped up' and is actually intact, we could predict his exact size using the yalm depth descriptions at the beginning of every Turn. However, it very much seems like everything is torn up or at the very least displaced. I'd be extremely surprised if we never saw Bahamut (as a living, breathing thing) again... so I refuse to believe he's gone forever. I also agree that his head seems very far away and it is our lack of being able to actually 'go near' the head that is making you think the head is smaller than it actually is.
I will say that the size of his hand (for the arena in Turn 5) seems incompatible with the size of his wing (in Turn 1). It seems like the hand is proportionately bigger than the wing... but again, that could be perception playing tricks on me because you can't actually TOUCH the wing... just look up at it.

All that'd have to be done is to measure the length of the hand in Turn 5 (keep finding max distances of Cures, 35? yalms) and compare it to a few full-length shots. If I remember correctly there's a nice view right before it roasts Louisoix and when he summons the Twelve against Bahamut.

he is alive and regenerating himself, as Alisae says after Twintania. She also says he hides himself down there

Bahamut was as big as Alexandria (one of the capital cities), I can only imagine him being as big as Uldah or something in this game.

My question is, what exactly tore him up? I'm really curious if it's explained post turn 5, or what.

I was thinking more along the lines that his head would be an actual dungeon. The cutscene post twintania seems to point in that direction.
