Let me reiterate. Bear in mind, I'm not making excuses. I work for a company that has to employ large volumes of data over a server...**snip**

Let me make this simple for you, if you have customers who are continually disadvantaged by your schedule, you are going to have a pretty annoyed group of customers if you do nothing to either compensate those customers or mitigate the harm. My available playing hours have been impacted by every maintenance that Square Enix has performed. That adds up to quite a large number of the available playing days I have had in the last month. Maintenance is required, sure, but at the end of the day, the net effect is an outage for a certain group of players. If the maintenance was less frequent (once a week at most) that *might* be acceptable, but it's not, it's been several times a week. I get that you don't want your time affected, so of course you support the current maintenance schedule - sounding all reasonable and such.

The thing is, it's easy for you to take that stand, you're not affected.

I work for a very large international corporation, and we cannot afford to disadvantage one group of customers time after time. So we a) do not have 4+ maintenance outages a week and b) rotate the times when we do have maintenance so that the impact on any one group is minimized.

The terms of service that you have agreed to cover the event of outage times. You can opt out by not logging in and cancelling your subscription. See bullet 5:

5. INTERRUPTION TO THE SERVICE

From time to time, in order to provide our customers with the optimal gaming experience, it is necessary for Square Enix to conduct routine maintenance on the computers and/or servers that support the Game. During these times, access to the Game or support services may be interrupted. Access may also be temporarily suspended in whole or in part, without notice, due to emergency repairs, fire, flood, explosion, war, strike, embargo, governmental action or failure to act, the act of any civil or military authority, act of God, or by any other causes beyond Square Enix's control, or any other reasons for which Square Enix, in its sole discretion, deems that temporary suspension is necessary. You acknowledge that disruptions of service may occur and waive any causes of action against Square Enix in any way arising from or related to any such disruptions of service.

2.) I am impacted by the maintenance. I'm on MST and I work until the late evening. This is my prime time. The difference is I understand the business decision and need for it. I'm not "white knighting", I'm being realistic. I for one would rather all hands on deck and take a hit only to reap the benefits later on down the road. Fixing unencrypted Session ID's and pulling trades to default on the server side alone is worth the maintenance.

3.) I agree with the customer impact and the negative perception being generated and I've no doubt they see this as well. The difference being, we are not their major consumer base. We are a distant second. At best. However, their office hours fall in line and the amount of down time (6 hours) indicate a hardware change and/or a medium to high impact client change or both. Do we really want another 3102 or 90000 debacle? Wouldn't you agree to have extra down time to ensure that something of that magnitude doesn't re occur?

4.) Someone somewhere has to take the hit. With a 24/7 server environment, multiple users somewhere will be affected. Affect your main consumer (Japan) the least and the rest in descending order, though I think the major reason to run the times for this downtime has more to do with having "all hands on deck" than anything else. Remember, they can't push rolling updates for their data centers. Too may clients will become de synced and the event of corrupted and stuck cache could force a 3102 or 90000.

US have servers very close to them, therefore having low delay.
EU has no maintentance in their prime time.

Pretty fair trade IMO.

I work and find time to play when the servers are up. There are other ways to enjoy your time off other than XIV. If the servers are down try reading while listening to music, play an offline game like Kingdom Hearts, watch TV, netflix, or a movie. The simple truth is that whenever they do a maintenance they will always cause someone some trouble but doing it at a time when most people are asleep like 11pm until 5am EST is a very logical choice.
