Gil buyers and you?

So last night our FC was running Garuda for fun and alt job weapons. We didn't want to pug a DF dps and decided to do a shout in Mordona to pick up a local. Someone that said they needed to pick up the Garuda weapon, they didn't have relic yet and wanted a upgrade. When we get into group someone points out the pick up we grabbed has no need for the weapon, they are geared to the hilt in millions of gil of HQ over melded crafted gear. Top to bottom, including the weapon. On our voice chat people start saying this guy must of bought gil. Well, no need to jump to conclusions right? Im sure this guy has crafting or gathering up, or something. Wrong. A quick check of lodestone revels that its the only 50 they have, zero crafts, zero gathering and zero experience in game. This guy flat out told us he was a new 50.

So this is my question. How would people suggest handling this sort of thing. This person, while he could have been gifted all his items, almost clearly bought gil. I felt like he should have been kicked from party. I dont like the idea of helping gil buyers out since they (not the rmt) are the plague on our server, without them buying gil, the RMT would have no job and my blist wouldn't have 150 people on it, all RMT.

Should gil buyers, obvious ones, or admitted ones be treated as out casts? Should they be let into runs and parties, or should we say NO!

If someone would admit to gilbuying, they'd have no place in my groups or FC/LS. However, that situation is a bit difficult as you had really no proof. I would have probably approached the issue somehow, asking for tips on how to get that kind of gear etc. I doubt many would admit to buying gil though. :/

Far be it from me to provide an alibi to gil buying scum, but there are of course perfectly reasonable reasons why this character could be geared in this way. By choosing to focus on only one and discard these others as not credible you're clearly showing your own issues.

There's a reason most legal jurisdictions in the world presume innocence till guilt is proven.

You can have 8 characters on a server and that doesn't show on lodestone. Neither does dual boxed characters. I'd be careful about confusing enthusiasm with cheating. Square did that when they baneed anyone who had too much gil for their comfort zone.

It's entirely possible to make that amount of gil simply by running dungeons and selling tome mats, which requires exactly one lvl 50 DoW/DoM and 0 of anything else.

You can also make that much gil by playing the markets, which requires a lvl 17 character and nothing more.

Yeah! Ok! He has the the time to make all these alts and farm tens of millions of gil, maybe in hundreds with bad luck (perfect overmelds), but he needs to waste time looking for a pug for a garuda weapon.

Lots and lots of people buy gil (that's why people sell it).

Discussing other possibilities is naive and pointless.

I doubt you can do anything about it though. Unless your on a Japanese server.

Logic dictates that if he's a new 50, there's no way he could have run dungeons enough times to afford that. If he had run dungeons that many times, don't you think he would have got some darklight gear instead?

The other posters are right, this doesn't prove anything, but it's definitely extremely suspicious.

Although suspicious, I hesitate to jump to conclusions as there's always a possibility that the player legitimately obtained this gear. Instead of leveling, they could have done a lot of farming on the way to 50 and sold the drops on the Markets. Alternatively, the player could have a very generous friend who crafted the gear for them so that they may skip the whole grinding ak/wp/cm/Prae fest.

All that being said, I try to avoid those who buy gil for the same reasons others have mentioned. Primarily, they provide a market for the RMT. Secondly, getting to 50 and then instantly having good gear circumvents the process of learning to play your job as a 50 which is very different than 1-49.

Do they sell levelled characters yet? It could be he bought a 50 DoW and gil to get the gear.

I have interacted with people who I learned to have bought gil, and also run bots. I have strict moral codes, and adhere to my integrity, so I stop grouping with people who I know buy/sell gil and/or cheat (bot/exploit) I know not everybody agrees with me on this. I don't know if my current FC has a policy on exploits, but I tend to look for FC's who visibly claim that botters/exploiters will be kicked from FC.
