Noone wanted to play TSW because the combat was awful. TSW got glowing reviews in the beginning, when people were enjoying the puzzles, and then they realized that the rest of the game was a shell, and once the questing was complete, there was nothing worth doing.

If TERA or TSW had both TERA's combat and TSW's questing, it would have had a big impact on MMO populations.

    and about tera and tsw:
I still enjoy tsw. tera? yeah. hell no. hell to the f no. I'm done with 'action' combat. give me back the combat from spellborn (aka the game tera stole the idea from and turned it into 'easy mode') and we MIGHT talk, but there is nothing wrong with the combat system in tsw anyway. it fits the game and I love the two-target system. but neither has anything to do with FFXIV either. the only prolem ARR has is the freaking delay and once they fix that I will start complaining about 'things of substance' (which won't be the combat system itself. just things like the raise animations and class builds)

yes. yes it's insanely fast to level to 50 if all you're doing is fates but guess what? that's your own damn fault all you do is playing this game like it was a single player game you wanted to finish as fast as possible.
what you're essentially doing is grabbing a regular final fantasy game and doing nothing but the story line and maybe some grinding in-between to be able to meet the minimum requirements from a GUIDE you read.

I for one see this game as a final fantasy game first, and only after that as an MMO ... and the MMO part is still important to me. main reason why I don't do fates a whole lot is because people just ignore you in there, same as they have done in the public events in gw2, rift (!) or war (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

not everyone who plays this game came from ffxi, either, or at least it's not just people who apparently ONLY played/enjoyed FFXI. I've played it myself, but i quit back in 07 and have since moved on to several other mmos, lots of which I enjoyed/still enjoy (most prominent in this would be lotro, tsw and swtor. for the latter I have an active sub, raiding 2-3 times a week, and the other two I still play every 2-3 months because I still love them)

I want stuff from THESE games, too, but all people here ever talk about is WoW this and FFXI that.. blahblahblah

ps: this is a 1.0 character, and while I am not legacy, I did play until the second quartal of 2012, so relatively long. I've also played arr since open beta (well I played closed beta too but that didn't count as actually moving ahead)
i have zero classes at 50. I play roughly 30 hours a week (well according to my xfire profile, anyway), so probably more than I should....

Totally off topic, whatever happened to Chronicles of Spellborn? I beta tested that game and then lost track of it during a major move. Forgot all about it but the few days I got to play it were fun!

On topic (and not directed at Amnie, or anyone in particular): I disagree with most of the points raised in the original post. I don't want gear switching, or auto-attacking to build up to an attack in this game for sure. Open area dungeons are okay, but not necessarily something that is needed.

I've also had a good laugh at all the WoW-clone comments. Just because a game borrows elements from another (cause most of WoW's stuff is also borrowed from others) does not make it a clone. Typically, MMOs progress by taking elements that were successful from other games and combining them with new elements to create their own thing. The presence of elements from Game A does not automatically make Game B a copy. If I was designing a game, I would definitely want to look at the most successful game in the same genre and ask myself why I think they did right, and then try and work some of that into my game. There isn't anything wrong with wanting to keep successful elements in a game.

Take the duty finder for instance. Has it produced more jerks because you aren't really tied to your reputation? I don't have actual numbers, but I'd say probably. However, the number of times I run into said jerks is relatively small compared to the number of times I run a place. They're more memorable for sure, so they stick out more, but when I pay attention a lot more runs go smoothly and without insults than runs that have a jerk. Add to this that I don't have to sit around in one area to spam for a party, but instead can freely roam, and I would say the benefits outweigh the bad, and I'm glad this is a common feature in MMOs now.

This is a common misconception many FFXI players still have. Reputation counted for very little in FFXI just as it does now in FFXIV. A-holes were still a-holes in FFXI and they were able to find other a-holes to form linkshells and clear content.

That other LS trying MPK your alliance in order to steal your claim on Kirin? That would be those a-holes you thought their reputation would of kept them at lvl 53 coming back to bite you.

Oh, I wasn't really even counting FFXI in my reply because it was by far the most hostile community I had ever encountered in a game. I went to try it out a few years after it came out (maybe more, this was in about 2005-2006), and the attitude towards people that were new to the game was horrendous. Back then I didn't visit forums, I saw no shouting as far as joining any type of helpful community was, and was just met by nasty players who thought I should already know that xyz was the best for leveling.

Mostly bad players had issue with ffxi's community since reputation was important. I mean there were some drama here and there but for the most part everyone got along fine.

So..what I gathered from the first two lines is.

This isnt an XI-HD thread. Ok. But wait.. this is about making it more like XI. wait a minute there...but let's continue..oh, the next line. We dont want another Wow-clone...

but you do want an XI clone.

    That makes it ok then.

Let me also add; I loved XI when I played it. I enjoyed it quite a bit infact. But, that game is called FFXI. This is FFXIV. A whole different game, a whole different world. A whole different set up.

Just leave it be. I understand you want something that feels more like home, well, two choices. Either, pick up and go back to XI, because you're afraid of change. Or, accept the change and embrace XIV for what it is.

the publisher decided to 'promote' it not at all (which is funny because there was a HUGE player hype about the game as far back as 2-3 years before its actual release. kind of comparable to what's going on with the western release of archage I guess, but not really)
I forgot the name of the NA publisher but as far as I remember they even filed bankrupt afterwards. the European publisher was Frogster (or 'Infernum' as they call themselves now. I'd say there's a reason why the company has changed their names 3 times in the last 6 years. lol)
oh yes, the very same publisher as Tera (and Runes of Magic and Dragon's Prophet in Europe)

Honestly Orsnoire, what he said are some very valid points in terms of how this game is a perfect replica of WoW minus the different skin.

when i log into this game, i sometimes accidentally expect my old WoW toon to be on screen when the game loads up because of it's striking simularity of what to expect.

just because you favor this game so much, it doesn't make you judge jury and executioner of whats true and whats not.

"popular producer of ff14" even admitted to it tremendous amounts of times that he wanted this game to be a complete clone of World Of Warcraft. stop beating a dead horse.

this game is world of warcraft with a skin of final fantasy, shoehorned on to take advantage of our nostalgia and fanhood.

And by saying this, while providing no credible analysis of how systems and themes are directly ported, shows that you have no clue what you're talking about, and you're just using buzzwords to try and elicit an emotional response. Yoshi never admitted to creating a clone of World of Warcraft. By rewriting that history, you betray your dead hobby horse, yet again. He admitted only to taking major inspiration and themes from WoW. Nobody denies that there are themes and inspiration carried over from WoW. But clone? That's so silly that to even repeat it like you do makes you look TRULY mentally challenged.

Just like you've been doing since Beta.
