JP community IS fine, but English community IS NOT fine.

I would have already quit this game ages ago if there is no JP community.
Imagine I can only party with *English players in this game. Ew! Disgusting!
*Again, most of them are rude, arrogant but not all of them*
We had a JP tank call us Gaijins and leave the party without warning. As far as acting badly goes that's the worst I've seen in game so far.

Although I agree that everywhere has jerks and good people, I've noticed more variation in online communities for games than you have. In my experience, games attract different audiences which build different types of communities. You don't have the same type of gamer for every game.

In FFXIV, the community is so broad that often it has some subcommunities that don't understand or even like each other. For example, some players have never tried an MMO before. Some players want an experience like a single player FF game. Some only want to raid. Some want to play a bit of everything. Some people use terminology from FFXI, while others use terminology from WoW. Some people are racists who look down on other FFXIV communities. There are many other examples.

The community in FFXIV is somewhat typical for an MMO (casuals vs hardcore, elitists, etc), but it has unique challenges that make it sometimes better and sometimes more toxic than other online communities.

It's just a game. People have bad days, everyone starts out new somewhere, sometimes we are all wrong, life happens, and we tend to overlook the fact that this game is mostly cooperative in nature and not a competition.

I've been wrong plenty of times, but I always love to be proven wrong- it means I have the chance to be better. That's a plus for me.

I can't say I agree with the last statement in the OP, since I've actually had the misfortune into running into a few "charming" folks across a whole day before. (Titan brings out the best in people..) However, when you're doing things with others that have a high-strung atmosphere about it, it will be chaotic no matter what you do. Since then, I've made plenty of friends, got a nice FC, I'm up to my 5th relic, and I realize it's really not as bad as most people make it out to be.

There's too many angry people in this world, it's good to be nice and balance things out.

Thanks to the "Gaijins" who party with him before you did.

The last comment in the OP is mostly tongue in cheek, but it's something you should consider if you're always running into negative types.

I couldn't disagree more with this post. Having only played FFXI before a few years ago, and then getting into other modern games, it was a major shock to see the differences in communities. Such a large amount of people who would bicker with their own party members. People who'd join a party and then leave it without even saying a word, not even a "hey guys, gotta go." People who either don't care to or don't know how to type a legible thought into the chat log. This type of thing happened in FFXI from time to time, but when it did, people would comment on it because it didn't happen all the time and it certainly wasn't considered acceptable behavior. Now people do this and more constantly and a lot of the time people hardly say a word about it. It's become expected.

It's true that people are just people. But it's also true, in my opinion, that the general mindset of players has changed. There were always ragequitters and the like, but it is now more common. The df exposes us to more of them and encourages their behaviour to become the almost the norm. The faster pace of the game also exposes them to us more often. In the old days if you got a dick once every five parties, then you got a dick once or twice a week. Now if you get a dick once every five parties you get one once or twice every few hours.

This attitude is part of the problem. This is easily the stupidest, most arrogant, most self-serving contrived pieces of garbage I have seen anyone in the English forums post.

There are few people who are always nice, but there are lots of people that are unmannered all the time.

I get around one jerk every two days on DF, which seeing as I run around 4 dungeons a day makes them around one in 24 random grind-fatigued strangers I meet. I'd say that's pretty good.

Back when I was running fates people would answer when I greeted them, say good bye before leaving, and sometimes even crack a joke.

And that's on an EU server where people queue in every language even though they only speak one.

Seriously, say "Hi" if you want a greeting, say "We have a problem" if you want people to stop and think about what they're doing, say "Great job people" if you want some mutual congratulation. Stop sitting there doing nothing and thinking to yourself "Man, I've only read one word from this guy yet but I bet he's a total douche" all while you wait for friendly conversation to magically appear by itself. And STOP complaining about it on the forums afterwards.

Oh, and I'm sure some people out there have felt I was the worst a**hole they'd ever met even though I generally have the best intentions in mind. What can you do? Crap and mistakes happen.

And why am I replying to this anyway? The worst part of the FFXIV community is this forum section.
