X Game is a clone of X Game has been going on forever and a day for RPG's. I wonder why that is. Could it possibly be how the genre operates? No that can't be it, people can't be inspired by things and manage to use similar elements but make different games at all. Because inspiration only could possibly lead to straight up copying something it seems.

Using only similar elements to something in said genre and making something different but similar would just be to simple of an answer for this situation.

None the less, for the sake of potential understanding I will say why anyway. It is not merely the parts but the whole package that is distinctly wow like. Stat progression and system design is one of my main problems and points of comparison. Where, for the sake of balance and ease of access stats are made simple and progress in a linear and tiered fashion. Duty finder, item levels, quest centric progression, leveling designed to be gotten through quickly with the idea that endgame is where the real game is. Use of mounts and minions as fluff in a fashion that is identical to WoW. Instance dungeon design apes that of wow's as opposed to alternative methods (open, more varied, not the basic path + 3 boss). Combat design, UI layout, and control scheme are all extremely similar to WoW's. The world design is also similar to wow's where there is an emphasis on the visual but almost everything is more like a cardboard cutout.

As I said, it is more than just the sum of these parts. The entire experience just rings of WoW all the way through. On to your next comment, you say that like FFXIV has done 'anything' different and it hasn't really. Despite what you may think, I do not hate wow (I do hate some elements of it) and I knew from some early quotes from yoshida that this was going to be a game that was markedly similar to WoW but the whole time I kept rooting that they would do just what you said and take the basics of WoW and turn it into something unique. This is not what we have right now.

"What SE could change to make the XI playerbase happy"

    ....

    "change FFXIV:ARR into FFXI"

You know, there's still a game out there that's called FFXI if you are not happy with ARR.

Don't think that is what they are asking for one, instead to bring in more similar elements and if you had read through the thread a bit more you might have noticed some have said (like myself) that FFXI is not FFXI anymore and thus they cannot go back to what they are looking for.

Instead of asking "what can we do to make it more like x", we should be asking "what can we do to make it more rewarding and fun to play".

Ultimately it doesn't matter where we (game developers, players) get our ideas. What matters is how it improves our specific framework. For instance, a lot of people (including myself) lament the loss of the elemental resistance system. However, if such a system were to be implemented in FFXIV, it would almost surely result in a much less fun and possibly broken structure for the game without radical class redesign. It wouldn't make it more like anything. It would just suck.

Just try to think about how a change affects the system in which it is implemented, not how that change was beneficial to an older, different system. It's not apples to apples at that point.

Agree here, except where you suggest elemental resistance would suck. Bit of a nit pick, but I am positive it could work and agree it would be a pretty broad change that would deeply impact the balance to the point that just slapping it on there would be worse than leaving it out (in other words, if you don't have the time/resources to do it right then don't do it). But I think that is ultimately what you were saying, I just love systems like that and MUST SAY stuff about it even if it is mostly besides the point.

Could not care less about ffxi's graphics. If they managed to in any way get the game back on track with how it used to be I would be over there in a heartbeat. For the record though, I had voiced my concerns there. With that out of the way, whats wrong with making this game more of a home for ffxi players when it would be an expected move and there are so few options for it?

The reason FFXI players cant go back to FFXI comfortably, is the Seekers expansion killed the game for long time players.

Abyssea made the leveling process easy, while also adding fun SMALL party content. This alienated a lot of the older playerbase, but most kept with it.

Seekers destroyed years of work, for no obvious reason, other than to perhaps cause people to quit.

Relic weapons in FFXI took months or years to complete, and millions of Gil. They were the end all be all weapons and the reward for a whole lot of hard work.

Then the cap went to 99. So, the relics followed. A quest line was added to make the level 99 relics.

Then seekers came out, and added CRAFTABLE weapons you could buy on the auction house for a relative pittance (compared to the cost of a relic).

    Club:
    Relic(99)
    [Main] All Races
    DPS: 18.12
    DMG:93
    Delay:308
    Attack+40
    "Randgrith"
    Additional effect: Recover MP Afterglow
    LV 99 WHM

    Craftable:

    MND+7
    Accuracy+26
    Club skill +215
    Parrying skill +215
    Magic Accuracy skill +177

    Great Sword:

Well, first of all Thank you to all they liked my Post and to all they talking here w/o flaming etc,... you know what i mean.

I never said XIV:ARR is a bad game, yes i said its a WoW-Clone maybe some People taking the word clone a way too serious and Yes i also said that my Points are things that I WOULD CHANGE. In the End 80% of the Game using things that WoW had (while i played it again talking about Cata and MoP)

I cant go through all Posts now, but i was reading something that you exchanged in XI your parts for new gear, thats not correct, we had alot parts they where the best for over 2-3 Years.

I think someone Complained about competition by the Open World Nms there is a solution, trigger spawns thats it. Keep players busy out of the normal Raidtimes by farming this as small FC/LS Event, Farm your own triggers and you get the Loot.

Xi isnt XI anymore, also while XIV where down i reinstalled XI again 90ish times idk anymore, i got from 75 to max level within some Hours with Abyssea Partys and got 3 AF3 Pieces withing some Hours of farming and to make it clear, doing Content which isnt Rewarding to ME doesnt make sense to do.

Telling me/us should go back to XI is a statement only People they have no clue about the current XI and the Community, there are no-less EU Players (depending on Server)

WoW relased a Cash Shop already because they losing Players every Month. Do you think they going the right way?

I have another Question for everyone here

Are you excited by Obtaining a AF1.5 Pieces over a NPC by trading in points?

    My Personal Mind:

I mean when i get my Points done and buy me ILVL 90 Gear i am happy for less then a Minute because there is no effort behind it.

BCOB, idk last time i got the Allagan Belt for Dragoon, well its IlvL 90ish again, and it doesnt feel like i really worked for it.

People they Played XI will know what i mean, talking about stuff Like W.Legs, Kirins Osode, Duelists Chapeau, Thief Armlets (af2),Dalmatica, Adaman Hauberk,Ridills, Kraken Clubs, Speed Belt even the Black Belt for MNK, Shadow Mantle, Shadow Ring, Defending Ring etc,etc.....

When you had a DKP Endgame LS, you never wanted to miss a raid because u wanted to be under the Top activity Members to obtain your Loot if it will Drop.

When Red Mages remember back to stick Paralyze on the Mob, you need special Gear depending on the Boss to stick it on him, and when you finaly landed it on him you had the proof that your patience and work got rewarded to you and your LS.
