Am I forced to make a healer to enjoy this game?

I really do love this game, I play an archer wanting to become a bard, but what has dampened my excitement about the game is the fact that each time I need to do a dungeon for a story quest I wait 2 hours and more.

Right now I am at over 3 hours wait time for Toto-Rak. I do have a real life job, sometimes I only have 2 hours of play time, other times more, but here I am, having the entire evening to level...only to run out of quests 3 hours ago and reaching the story quest of that dungeon.
And now I wait and wait and wait.

And this happened everytime I had to go into a dungeon so far! No wait time was below 2 hours! I am getting really really sick of it =/ If I hadn't pre-paid for 2 month in addition to the first free month I would have uninstalled this game =/

Does it get better? Or am I forced to make a healer/tank just to actually /progress/ through my story quests? I realise there's guilds, but all the ones I joined this far have been zero helpful in that respect =/

What seems to help is being in a party with a tank or healer before entering the duty finder. There is no need to actually play a healer unless you actually want to be a healer.

Best of luck with your questline! Have fun!

You dont have to wait. Here some tips to kill time while queueing

    - Do crafting
    - Level other class
    - Do sub quest
    - Do Fates

There are more interesting things to do while waiting for duty finder. Also if you have LS you can ask them to help you out.

If your guild (FC) is unwilling to help new/lower lvl members progress content, I would suggest you find another one. There are many out there that are more than helpful and will assist you in running the content. Also you can try to shout for anyone looking to run your dungeon, it sometimes feels like you are screaming into the wind, but there are helpful souls out there who will suck it up and run with you.

In regards to wait times, I roll a tank, healer and dps (primary tank) and while healer and tank have really short queues, I have never waited more than 45 min as a DPS, so I am sorry to hear you are waiting for hours at a time to queue up. Keep looking out there man and don't get discouraged, as they are implementing tools to alleviate this (giving tomestones to higher level folks that deign to run lower level dungeons again).

I frequently enter low level dungeons as a high level tank to help out people who are waiting and almost always receive a thanks from players that recognize I don't NEED to be in there for anything. I just like to help out.

You can always try /shouting and forming a party, some people may be like me and if really bored will queue with random low levels for there story quest .

Don't start a healer. Haven't you seen the never ending thread about healers should DPS or they're bad or lazy? Reading some of that will make the 2hr wait times seem worth it.

I feel like they should help DPS in AK/WP only if they are comfortable with doing it and are decently gear, same with tank. It honestly makes run go by much faster. I'm not saying they should do it or they are bad...only if they feel like they can.

    Regarding that subject;

If you find yourself sitting around for 10 seconds with nothing to do, it doesn't hurt to cast a bio or aero or two. It really does come down with how comfortable you are DPSing. However, it doesn't make them a bad healer. Also, it barely effects run time so it wouldn't even really matter.

I feel your pain to an extent. My wait times have been between forty minutes to an hour and fifteen. I've started doing other things inbetween, like leveling Pugilist since I wanted to do Bard. I want to tinker around with gathering/crafting but I haven't done it yet. I always keep the duty finder status window up in the corner and when I've got another DPS and either a healer or a tank I stop what I'm doing and switch to the class I queued up as and then wait.

Then sometimes I just run around aimlessly looking at people and things and stuff but that's because I'm a dork.

It has crossed my mind to switch and level as a healer instead. I chose Bard because I always do DPS (except for a stint in WOW as an off-tank) and wanted to try out having a support role. I've always admired healing and wanted to give it a shot, but since I've got Archer to 19 and I'm so close to getting to choose my Grand Company and get my chocobo it seems like a waste to start leveling over again. I don't get to play as often as I'd like, I don't want to feel like I'm taking a bunch of steps back.

I don't know how viable it would be, but maybe researching the other servers and seeing if they have better queue times when you're on and then server transfering would be an option. Good luck!
