This is old news to WoW players. The issue is that South Korea is playing a vastly different game then the rest of the world. They have increase lockouts and shorter lookout timers. If you can't play at their level your are literally putting the rest of the teams progression at a stand still.

And it's reasons like this that I focus more on having fun in a dungeon/raid than actually progressing through it. I play videogames because I want to relax; in real life, I have to deal with the things that suck - for example, meeting a project's deadline. But in a game, I have all the time (or lack thereof) in the world. I don't want to turn something that's supposed to be fun and relaxing into something that's stressful. When I use the DF to find a group, I make sure that everyone knows any important mechanics prior to when they'll actually need to face said mechanics, and if someone apologizes for a wipe, I tell them not to worry about it because it's just a game. It's not the end of the world, and at most, I lose the entire five minutes (at most) that it takes to use the shortcut and run back to where we wiped.

I get that some people are hardcore and want to grind, and I don't have a problem with that. But it pains me to see people who are some of the gentlest souls on this planet being excluded simply because they're "not gud nuff". Helping someone become better will pay off much more in the future than just grouping with other elitists, because you don't just find someone to grind the hard(er) content - you also get a friend to enjoy the game with.

Some thoughts while browsing this thread

    1. People in South Korea are not different from people in other places.
    2. This is why gamers are shunned. People think we're assholes
    3. I'm pretty sure the Leroy thing was staged. I've never heard anything about Ben Schulz being autistic and he certainly doesn't look handicapped
    4. Why are people Jerks? Why does it matter? The important question is: how do you behave when you're playing the game? That's the only thing you can control.

    Marisa? As a THM? *hugs*

Erm, Touhou love aside, I think the post linked to in the OP is incredibly important if only because it shows how easy it is to keep people down in an MMO. "Your gear's rubbish, and you don't know *this* dungeon? Seriously?" *leaves* - players can't gain experience or gear if they're never given the chance to run the content, and Youtube is no substitute for real practise or a friendly helper in your party. Imagine if everyone mocked you for not having your Relic weapon and never bothered to do Chimera/Hydra with you because they didn't need it - see how easy it is to permanently fall behind (especially in an MMO so heavily gated/"vertical" as FFXIV currently is)?

    Good read.

People feel so entitled behind their computer screens, and I'm not even going to pretend that this never applied to me. I've talked behind my party member's back time and again, and that's not much better than insulting them.
I've had my share of bad players over the years, and I've been one at first of course, but lately I've come to realize that offering advice is so much better than giving out insults.
Of course if the person doesn't respond in any way, doesn't show any sign of understanding or of even paying attention... they have a problem and are causing one to their fellow players...but I find that this is the minority. Most bad players are simply bad because they haven't yet learned to be good. That's all.
If we all keep that in mind, we can make a much better and friendlier community.

Leroy Jenkins was neither handicapped, autistic or mocked. He was a hell of a funny guy and is praised and imitated, and I'm sure there is a Leroy Jenkins on each and every server in this game, like in all others I've played.

Parents fault for not teaching their kids sportsmanship and politeness. Parents continue to fail society by birthing mongrels and being their friends and not a parent.

out of 22 pages I read, at least 20 pages are nothing but elitism garbage. "He shouldn't be allowed to do this, hes bringing people down so why should he be happy" etc. This community has become so awful its distasteful and disgusting. For most of you, this is your first Final Fantasy MMO. Final Fantasy XI didn't have this problem (not nearly as much as this) and even 1.0 was a hell of a lot more relaxed than this community. You can tell who the old timers are, its the guys taking everyone and anyone through dungeons, primals, etc. It's obvious the rest of you lack any social boundaries what so ever. I give this game another 6 months before no one wants to play, where it becomes a reclusive community bent on selfish ambitions.

It sucks to be in the position that this player was in. Not doing well and not quite understanding why. I try my best to help people who are doing pretty poorly and don't get why. It's pretty cool to help someone out or even be helped out when things get rough. I've been helped numerous times... however... The issues begin when someone -resists- listening to advice and help. There was a situation where my wife was playing WP with a BLM and they were dying against the flans. After the second wipe, I noticed the BLM's rotations were a bit off for that situation and I was taught a Flare rotation that would clear the adds easily enough.

I asked for her keyboard after she agreed that I can give the advice and all I said was "You can kill the flans easier by getting 3 stacks of AF before they spawn, wait for the tank to rodeo them in the center and use Raging strikes ---> Flare ---> Convert ---> swift cast ---> Flare. Advice that was responded with "I've been in this dungeon 50 times already, what could you possibly teach me?" Which was followed by a cast of flare followed by a rage quit. We know this person, our FC has been trying to help him/her understand certain mechanics of the game (They thought that Esuna was only good for curing poison until we corrected) but it is usually met with initial resistance or hostility.

It is very difficult to stay patient when faced with this level of resistance.
