It old news , almost all the modern day mmos players have read it or seen it no offense And the big guns for MMOS also. Were going see all the Newer stuff with elder scrolls and EQN. Many players have seen were this game going and they got a good franchise behind it, We hope they listen or been seeing what coming out in the next yr. They got a foundation on this game. Time to make it modern and FUN. Between the theme park and sandbox.
Nice Story and it perfectly shows why i dont like Koreans and there Games.
That happens when a Korean Gamers is criticaly Hit by Humanity.
Damn, that hit me pretty hard. I remember my first time in an MMO. I played a ton of Guild Wars (1) back in the day and one patient soul took me under his wing and we became great friends. Years later I do the same for anyone else whenever I can. Great post!
This was a beautiful read thank you for that : ) I hope our community can become close and strong like it had been in 1.0. The hardcores that came here from other games just need to learn what it means to "hug" in ffxiv.
It's funny really, with all the people I chat with in Mor Dhona who are shouting for groups to do stuff for hours and no one responds I wind up picking them up, i could care less if a dungeon takes 30 minutes or all 90. Most of the people I pick up are great and have awesome sense of humor and it makes the runs fun and non-stressful. Hell, I've taken a completely random pug to the coil turn 1, none of us have ever done it, or seen it, or even researched it. I made many friends in that group because of it. Sure we never made it past the first boss because we had no idea what we were doing, but its the fact of how fun it was. I could have taken my FC through it and probably beaten it with little to no problems now that everyone is geared and knows their rotations but its for the simple fact of having fun for me. If I'm gonna grind for gear/tomes, might as well enjoy it with laughs.
Hmm.
While this read is food for thought, trying to look this from an objective perspective I have the odd feeling that this person just likes to drown himself in self-pity.
"Oh, I know I am bad, I am sorry, I am sorry, I cannot learn, I deserve to be bullied but I'm postin here so please pity me, I'm sad but I like you all so much!"
Unless he has serious real life issues or mental conditions (which may very well be) this behavior is not something that should be encouraged, ever.
I am ALL for a friendly and tight-knit community, but this looks like borderline sensationalism.

Well when the whole server blacklists you and cant stand you, and apparently has no problem saying it to you, you can tell us the proper reaction or behavior that creates in an individual.
Its touching. Sadly this community is going the same way, just a week after release and its, 'god, newbs' and 'skip cutscenes!' for first timers. Now you can't move in Mor Dhona without hearing, "LF X class, must have Y gear and experience!" Heck people are leaving DF, (Where you dont get to pick your party) because some other players are not in full DL.
Its uncommon to see someone giving a chance to somebody new anymore.

I wouldnt wonder if most normal players leave soon because endgame and its Community is to freaky and after doing once all quest you have nothing more than a pure Asiagrinder Game (where grinding dont makes real fun). Not realy that what most western players can enjoy.^^
Your employer pairs you up with an employee that works twice as slowly as you, performs twice as badly as you for one hour. Your wage for that hour is tied to that guy's performance. After the hour is up, due to some seemingly random staffing policy, all staff are rotated and his performance is lumped on someone else. He falls through the cracks. You think; pfft, it's only an hour, can't fix that, and i'll never have to see him again; what a slacker. The next guy thinks that. And the next. And the next, until the slow worker has a reputation for being slow and no one wants to, or enjoys working with him. Offices being what they are his reputation becomes mud and the digs start (because, you know; people).Have to disagree with people pointing the blame at the developers' game design in regards to the toxicity of the community. Everyone is responsible for their own actions and choices. If you choose to be an asshole to someone, that is not on the developers, that is on you. The game being grindy doesn't give you carte blanche for being a prick because some people are slower than you. That's just you being a prick.
Our world is littered with opportunities to meet people who aren't as good as you; our social systems are designed around the idea of helping people who aren't as good as you or as privileged as you. In a work environment you'd help - because he's a person sitting next to you and because the penalties for quitting are high. In a work environment there are systems in place to ensure everyone is good enough to perform and that bullying is a punishable exception, not an accepted reality, etc etc.
Games developers are crafting games with massive social impact without considering the social impact. Life is grindy; we all work for money, we're all capped by weekly/monthly resets, we all get out what we put in, etc etc. Games do not expose a person behind the avatar, discourage bullying or offer support at level cap to get people performing.
The current trend in game design is massive over the top help at the start and nothing at the end. Even FFXIV which has one of the better tutorial systems i've seen does this - Guildhests stop at 40 (iirc) and teach group play mechanics. Nothing at 50 said "Nice one dude! Now, let's just go over this one last time...". There are a ton of things developers can (and should) do to improve the poisonous trend...
... and let's not forget something very important; Developers are a part of the community. Lumping it all on the community is no different than lumping it on the developers.
