$25 for a toon transfer?

It's because they don't want to make people think that server transfers are a quick and viable solution. They want you to make sound decisions about what you choose to do. Maybe some might think that "it's my money, they'd still get it" but it's also their service. They're free to do things based on THEIR philosophy about it. Server transfers have numerous consequences that exist not just for the server communities, but also from a tech standpoint. It's not gonna break their servers but it could cause potential unexpected problems to occur, which from a tech standpoint, is a very possible reality.

This is why the cost is high in general (be it FFXIV or WoW). If people are still willing to pay for the service, they are more than welcome to.

It's going to take one person that takes in $25/hr to make the transfer in 1 hour. They need to make sure all your data is transfered correctly and all that unlike where they just have whole bunch of ppl transfering.

Yep, Square is totally forcing you to spend $25 to transfer, because it's a necessary thing to do for everyone.

Here's a nice baseline: a transfer should cost less than a new FFXIV ARR game.

It's to stop people hopping between servers every day or so to make shit tons of money or leaving your rep behind too quickly, it's also an(other) RMT prevention mechanic for the same reason.

Nothing's stopping a rich person from doing that. I think the real reason is that they see this is a way to make money.

From my understanding it's to stop RMTs from server hopping to sell gil. If that's the main reason, I support the high cost.

I mean yes, Blizzard and a few other companies do it, but even to them I question why? You get money from subscriptions, crystals, and probably soon cash shops. Why do you insist of making the community pay 25 dollars for a transfer?

I feel to any company who charges more than 10 dollars for a transfer is a ripoff. But then again, everyone is trying to make a quick buck. I just hope you use the money for more content later on this year.

Maybe they'll charge less if you ask for a character transfer instead of a toon transfer.
