Definitely need more support. We need reasons to log in for end game or this game will suffer the fate of every other released the past 10 years...I don't want to see that happen. More support!

I really miss having open ended end game lol....
I am 100% with OP on this. Raiding is fun but we will bash our heads into a wall if it raiding keeps coming out ala "insert generic MMO". Coils will eventually get boring, CT will as well when ppl run thru it like cake because we are geared with lvl 90 gear.
And when all this is done, an expansion will come out and we will do the same but in different scenery. Grinding for "rep"/tomes will just be the same over and over.
In "Insert generic MMO" people are fed up with the rep grind and we can clearly see the drop in subs. Of course we see new raids here and there but its not enough.
Wiping over and over on some bosses is not the right way to go. In those "insert generic MMO" there are new ideas coming up and we start to see open maps with popped content and open world events.
The major problem with CT is that so many ppl wont feel the need to do it since gear level is gonna be lower then AF+1, unless we see another tier of "tomes" for AF+2. (which is what i think will happen)
There is one thing that i don't agree with OP is to make pop items sellable. The problem with that is that Gil sellers will own the market, that's why they changed it in FFXI.
-make open world maps ala sky/sea
-make NM and HNM with pop items (with bound drops)
-make "tomes" collecting harder to get and with lower gear level then the upcoming raid
-make "beastmen seals" worth something and bring BCNM back!
DIVERSITY, DIVERSITY, DIVERSITY!
Happy hunting!

While you're correct on the time-frame. Let's also remember that FFXI took months->year at NA release to get a job 75. And once you were there you had to spend weeks leveling subs, getting spells, and actually obtaining access to these areas. Once you did reach this endgame (talking just sky) you spent years doing it, not 2 hours a week. People still do sky 10 years after the game came out.
Off topic... I really really miss old FFXI. Everything you did felt like an accomplishment. I run around Toll and I see 100 other mo-fos in the same gear as I am wearing. *sigh*

We need an end game that gives open ended progression. Something available at all times so we can log in to do END GAME more than ONCE a week. Then, maybe then, we will have the feeling of accomplishment again. As it is now, its just a weekly chore to log in a do the 1 thing we have for end game...quite sad. While you're correct on the time-frame. That has literally nothing to do with why they changed it. I think you are confusing RMT's with normal players who have money, and just want to buy pop items quick, people farming sky/sea for pops and selling them to event ls's was an economy in itself pre-abyssea.
ITT: OP implies there isn't enough to do in FFXIV while simultaneously asking for things FFXI didn't even have for 2-5+ years after release.
As has been said previously I'm sure, we are roughly at the place where FFXI was when it released to Japan. Thus, stuff like Sky, Sea, Dynamis, etc were not available and were not even possible given those levels. However, it also took a significantly longer time to level grind up there (compared to FFXIV). So, I think it may be possible to incorporate those things. It would be nice to see or incorporated what Tanaka was doing in terms of high level mobs in certain parts of normal areas and the labyrinthine feel of parts of 1.0. I think that it is possible. Especially if they use the main scenario (or at that point likely the story from the xpac) as the gate to start unlocking such things. Frankly, I would like them to make such an area like how they were in FFXI (before the abssyea easy mode face-roll) where if you did not have silent pots or invis you were going to get your face eaten.
It seems there is 2 different view points though. Tanaka which was "Eat your face off if you think you are bad enough to walk in there" and Yoshi P.'s which is "I am going to give you a pillow to fight with so everyone can play and no one gets hurt". Financially Yoshi's makes sense as it has better appeal in the short term and so many of the MMO crowd grew up on win-button WoW (post vanilla and early BC I guess). But, Tanaka's vision gives you the feeling of accomplishment and sense of actual immersion from the "danger". I personally would like to see some of both in an area. I wish they did add a place like sky where if you went solo you would probably die. I would not even mind if it were an area where you could fall of the edge to your doom (the precedent is there with Titan and Demon Wall. But, make it hard. Make it open world. Put it in a crazy place that is not easy to get to or off the beaten path (could design something like xarcabard/castle oz). Maybe have its own mini-story similar quest chains or dungeons.
What sets FF games apart (imho) is their in-depth world and story. The previous MMO had the old school feel more so than the newer MMOs have. I love the game and plan on playing it. But, I do not see why with increased content (like an xpac or so) they can not create such a place. If you put good gear in it, and make it intense, people/FC/LSs will do the content. But, we shall see. Maybe some of Tanaka's vision (or what would have been put into place) can be added in essence if not in actuality.
Yeah, Great Buffalo sure was "eat your face off" difficult. Good job Tanaka.
Meanwhile, in Turn 5...
