I think Casual/Hardcore option would be by far the most helpful out of the things you listed.

My issue with the casual/hardcore thing would be how they would tell who is casual and who is "hardcore".
I just don't get how the game would magically know who would qualify as what.


They wouldn't tell who is casual and hardcore, you would. If you check both boxes you are saying you are hardcore or casual. If you just check hardcore you are saying you only want to run with people who also checked hardcore. SE wouldn't be calculating that, it would be based on what people check in the DF. So it would que you with people who checked the same stuff as you.
