having a camp was the norm there (well, at least on my server), and was respected by everybody. Coming in, and start killing the same mobs that someone else is already farming, was considered very rude.

    o well

^^ this. Way back when (old gamer prelude much like grandparents prelude to a story).... this was common. You camped the things you needed. People respected that you were camping and patiently awaited for you to pass the torch to them when you were done with your spot. It was all very courteous and orderly. Yippee for decency. But now, more often than not, you are camping your little spot, only need 10 more drops to finish your stack and be on your way, and some jerk comes along and starts fighting you for the mobs, and eventually pushes you out of your spot. What has happened to our gaming community?

Personally, I think of regular mobs as fair game - especially given that the mobs you need are always owned by you - and you can get drops from monsters even if you're fighting them with somebody else.

IMHO, camping with the intention of monopolising mobs is a wholly negative thing, especially given that there aren't enough of certain mob types to go around (banemites, the fleece mob, etc.).

Back then real money trading wasn't an issue. Nowadays you don't know when and even IF the person who is already there will stop being there within the next 24 hours.

And you could look at it from the other perspective: You just need 10 drops to level up your craft, but some jerk keeps monopolizing all the mobs for hours.

And as Mezolitik said, often enough there just aren't enough monsters. Say you need aldgoat skin, there is exactly one place where you can get it. With your suggestion about 3 people could block everyone else out of acquiring them, for a whole craft that needs them as base material for about 5 to 10 levels. And then those people could skyrocket the price for the skins on the market. Do you really think that would be better?

If it's a RMT then fight them for the mobs, by all means. The OP was talking about how they were camped somewhere and someone came out of nowhere and instead of asking "Hey, how long will you be?" or "Hey, can you spare a few, I just need 10 more fleece" or something along those lines, they just told OP to scram. (If I understood the situation correctly). Just because there are few mobs (which for fleece anyway, is changing tonight with the patch) or someone needs it to level their x,y,z doesn't matter. Everyone is farming for a reason. No more righteous than the other. (rmt not withstanding) There is no reason to throw courtesy and respect out the window just b/c someone wants something for themselves that another is currently having. A few words would go a long way. "Excuse me, mind if I take over your camp when you're done" or something similar. Camping mobs was done for years and years before some of the more contemporary mmos. However, it's the community that has degraded over time (entitlement etc). You're mob is camped. Deal with it. Wait for the camp to open up. No reason to bully, be a poacher, or report someone (again, rmt not withstanding).

As for the economy: it's economy. There has to be supply and demand. Not everyone is going to be able to afford everything. What is desired here? A flowery world economy where everyone can afford everything and gil falls from the sky? It sucks when you can't afford a supply that is in high demand. Yeah, I've been there. Who hasn't?

    1: A large playerbase

    3: Player greed.

It often isn't a case of a player waiting for 10 more drops to finish their stack. If it weren't for the annoyance of competition I'm sure most folks who farm stuff like fleece would stay out for hours on end until their inventory is full. Add in a large number of players and having nowhere else to go, and you have a situation where if everyone waited until the previous player was done and finished, you'd have to schedule an appointment for the camp months in advance.

Fighting for claim is rampant in this day and age because waiting for the previous person to finish would likely mean never getting access to the camp at all.

We let too many kids get into the game. mmo's should be allowed to be played by the older audience only. let the kids play wow and runescape.

Gold farmers, bots, foreigners, players who never played a MMO because this is FF. There are probably more reasons but ma brains don't work good.
