OP, I have killed Titan over a dozen times now with many different groups and as many different jobs...
The only way I reliably avoid Weights is by moving ahead of time -- just as you said. I very rarely (if ever!) get hit and am almost always the 'last person standing' during a wipe. To do this, I memorized his ability rotation and 'prepared' for everything that was happening. As a healer, memorizing the rotation is almost a prerequisite because you need to know when to get the tank topped off for MB.
As far as your problem with 'dropping them on other people'... everyone needs to know what's going on. I generally won't run toward people who are near me... no one wants to be MPKed! Keeping your camera zoomed out ALL THE WAY helps a lot.
I've seen some groups that prefer to 'stack up' prior to Weights, and then everyone runs out in opposite directions once weights drop. I don't like doing it this way because if someone 'forgets' and doesn't move immediately, they'll likely be MPKd. My preferred method is to be loosely spread out (almost in a line from closest to Titan to farthest from Titan) and everyone strafes right/left... That way, if you DO get hit, you'll only get hit by one and everyone knows where it will be. (Of course, I'm only referring to phase 5... the other phases should be easy enough to dodge).
Certain abilities like bombs require experience and that's it. You need to know exactly where to move and when or you could end up dead or dropping an inconvenient landslide on the wrong people. For people who have trouble memorizing the rotation, I have offered to get into voicechat to let people know when Weights are coming. For example, "Get ready to move after the next stomp... 1, 2, 3... GO."
With a fight like Titan, slow and steady wins the race. Do your best not to get distracted.. concentrate. One little hiccup could mean your life.
