Firstly, I don't have to respect your patience whatsoever. If you don't like what people are saying (and generally, most people do 'get it', we're just raising opposing ideas for the system. Just because you seem to love Cair beyond excess doesn't mean his ideas are an exact representation of the coming system).

And finally, where the hell did this come from? Yet another 'ur stoopid' post masquerading behind some fancy words you pulled from your thesaurus? Congratulations, but it doesn't at weight to it, especially considering you have again failed to contribute to the discussion or point out anything that I've said or done that is, in fact, stupid. The 'as usual' part is just beyond idiocy, I could wade through some of your previous posts (there are some lols in there to be sure) and pull some out to comment on your own intelligence, if you'd like.

Slightly skeptical you were killing any NMs as a Polearm-wielding Paladin (haha, I kid, I kid!).

But yeah, pidgeon-holing isn't a great idea. Just hoping stat-allotment and the abilities you can carry over from other classes will still allow some freedom (although obviously we'll still be able to mess about and experiment when we're not actually using the jobs for specialization, outside of party content)

Just like to point this out.

This kind of range in experience is what we’re aiming for with the reformed battle system—a system that rewards effort and innovation.
That quote is in the producer letter. If they want us to be innovative they should allow the system to let us experiment with Job/Weapon Combinations that break molds and innovate on individual playstyles and playability.

Sephr. :P There were lots of NM's that fell to me roaving around as a PLD/SAM with a polearm equipped.

PLD Skills + Seigan/Thirdeye meant I Could litterally fight like a Ninja without ninja and outlast most monsters because my MP Refreshed fast enough to maintain my self healing. Fights might have been long on a few of the tougher fights I soloed but they were rewardingly fun.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

Sorry for coming in late, I read the first couple posts and wanted to share my two cents.

I think weapons should be assigned to certain jobs, but not only one weapon per job. I also don't think that each job should be allowed ALL weapons, either. A white mage holding a spear sounds kinda odd to me.

The idea I'm thinking of is that let's take a job like Red Mage, for example. If you use the Gladiator class and use a sword, you'll be able to choose Red Mage as your job. If you use the Conjurer class and equip a staff, you'll also be able to choose Red Mage if you wanted to. Same goes for Warrior job. Maybe you'll be able to access Warrior while equipping either a sword or an axe, or 2-handed versions of each. That way it fits more of classic FF games, going with what the jobs actually were able to equip back then, too. I hope that makes sense.

And then of course, one type of weapon will allow for multiple jobs too, like equipping a sword will grant access to Warrior, (Thief?), Red Mage, Paladin, whatever else equips a sword.

If that's kind of what you're thinking of, then cool :P

Heres something that has been bugging me.

Where does it ever say White Mage can't use Spears? Sure in most past final fantasy games they can't. All of the ones since VI have been limited asset games though. Even if there was a character designed to be a white Mage they were designed to only use a certain weapon but thats the individualization of that character themselves.

But in older FF games like III, VI, T etc. White Mages could easily use spears in some cases. All it took was a "Use Spears" Skill that was equipped to the character.

In XIV were supposed to be designing our characters. Not Classes. Not Jobs. But the Character itself as a whole. So why should we be limited in any choice other then stat allocation which can be modfied and countered by properly equipped gear?

If a Player wants to wield a Spear and be considered a Healer by equipping the White Mage Job they should. Not because it doesn't make sense. But because thats how they wish to design and represent their character. You might scream that this destroyed Character Uniqueness but in reality it promotes it.

Id rather see everything evolve to the point that a player could do what ever he wants on his own time, then specialize to fit the need of a party on the party time. You might not like that player choses to wield a certain weapon while performing a certain task on their own. But that doesn't limit you, it doesn't hurt you, they are not getting anything you do not have access too. They are having fun, which should be the reason your playing.

At the very least I want this:

Have each job have a couple of weapon classes that can be used with it.
Any weapon class that can use a particular job can unlock that job at the appropriate level.

    So for example:

Red Mage job can be used by Gladiator, Thaumaturge, Conjurer, etc.
Gladiator, Thaumaturge, Conjurer, etc. can each unlock Red Mage once they are level 20 (arbitrary number).
Having any of those classes leveled to 20 you can do the quest for Red Mage and it enters your Job List.
You can equip the Job with any Class it's compatible with if that Class is level 20.

Anything more restrictive than that wouldn't make sense to me and I don't see how it could appeal to anybody. Limiting Red Mage to one Class just doesn't make sense.
If they are going to limit each Job to the Weapon Class that unlocked it, then they shouldn't use traditional FF Job names. If I unlock WHM with my CON, I should at least be able to specialize WHM with my THM as well.

If they don't restrict Jobs to any particular Weapon Class, that would be great, but I could see how OCD people would throw fits about "stupid" combos running around, even though I don't really agree. Let people experiment with ideas and strategies and have fun with it.

Dubont I'm sorry you feel like just because something isn't optimal, it shouldn't be an option at all. I feel like that is an extremely weak argument. Plenty of useless combinations exist in XI and they simply don't happen because people know better. Simply giving us the option isn't going to produce a million "gimps" as you like to put it. And you can simply not let bad combinations into your grinding/end game groups. I feel that it should be an option.

Just make every option available and let it sort itself out by natural selection for chrissake. Honestly.

You people just like to impose restrictions and rules like obedient little fools.

SE said one of their problems was convoluted formulae, well here's your chance to make a simple formula and what do you guys want? You want to convolute it more by having some inane class to job system that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

In real life I should be able to pick up a sword, learn sword skills and still be able to fulfill a role as a dark knight if I wanted to. What's with the limitations? Why Can't I be a sword-wielding Monk, a sword wielding Thief, a sword-wielding Black Mage? Why? Answer me that.

Just let me do what I want, and if what I want is stupid (i.e. a Cudgel-wielding thaumaturge trying to be a ranger) so be it. That class/job combo will just be under-utilised (i.e. gimp) and no one will play it. But who cares?

At least the option is there.

Let me outline the possible problems with limiting Classes/Weapons to specific Jobs. Lets' take swords for example. Currently, the only Armory Class that can use a sword is Gladiator. Now let's limit the number of Jobs that can use a sword (i.e. be a Gladiator) based on intuitive sense and the majority of previous Final Fantasy games (not just Tactics and 4 Heroes of Light).

    Gladiator:
    1. Warrior/Fighter
    2. Thief
    3. Paladin
    4. Dark Knight
    5. Red Mage

Now using this as a template, the Development Team could make the rule that each Class has the ability to be 5 Jobs. But when we try to apply this rule, holes develop that unbalances the whole system.

    Marauder:
    1. Warrior/Fighter
    2. Dark Knight
    3. ??
    4. ??
    5. ??

    Pugilist:
    1. Monk
    2. Thief
    3. Warrior/Fighter
    4. ??
    5. ??

    Lancer:
    1. Dragoon
    2. Warrior/Fighter
    3. ??
    4. ??
    5. ??

    Archer:
    1. Ranger
    2. ??
    3. ??
    4. ??
    5. ??

    Conjurer:
    1. White Mage
    2. Black Mage
    3. Red Mage
    4. ??
    5. ??

    Thaumaturge:
    1. White Mage
    2. Black Mage
    3. Red Mage
    4. ??
    5. ??

This is why weapon restrictions won't work for Jobs. The Class that is given access to the most Jobs becomes more useful/versatile/powerful than the other Classes. Now The Development Team can try to balance this, but then things would have to stop making intuitive sense. Gladiator would need to lose access to at least 2 Jobs to bring the total Jobs to 3 per Class. Then Lancer and Archer would need additional Jobs to bring them up to 3 ... but I honestly don't know what those Jobs could possibly be.

Plus every time a new Job or Class is introduced by the Development Team, the whole system would have to be reworked to maintain balance. It's simply too much effort and overhead to maintain artificial weapon restrictions on Jobs, in my humble opinion.

because it make no f****** sense if a white mage have a Spear they don't fight they cast Wep and a ward, staff is what cast magic. Maybe you don't understand that it look odd that all jobs can use all wep? in real life samurai don't use a dam great axe do they? no they don't it about human history mix with Final fantasy history.

stop trying to make it so we use everything i don't mind if we can use 1-3 wep for each class but using everything that make no sense is dumb and you know it. i don't even know why you still fighting over this give it up dammm
