Can you provide proof that none of them are alts or that 60% of your FC is unactive? I haven't seen any yet, just you and your members attacking people who disagree with you

I have a roster linked to the membership list of the forum we're all members of, which allows me to make sure that everybody with a valid forum account can get one and only one character invited to the FC.
I could take a screenshot of the in-game roster showing inactivity times, once I get back to my computer and my keyfob, if you're really that interested in seeing that we do have a whole lot of actually active members.

Because its unrealistic that all 800 of those would go to the same game, on the same server. I can see maybe 50-100 but not as many as you claim.

Dear S-E community caretakers, I would like to add my polite request that you please relay our query w/r/t increased FC size to the appropriate authorities. FFXIV is a very fun and lovely game and our large community of friends wishes only to be able to enjoy it together. We are sorry for any inconvenience this causes but hope you fully consider our position and requests! I also wish to apologize for many of the rude posts you have had to read in this thread, as we americans are often a brash and tribalistic peoples, angered and fearful of change. 800 is nothing compared to how many members you got in Eve , once I realized just where you guys coming from it made a lot more sense on why you need more space. I'm sure your FC will lose plenty who burn out eventually, but your a tight group so I don't see you falling apart as some in this thread suggested. And many others will eventually want to join in.

How is that unrealistic? We told people in our community we would be on Excalibur and why. The majority of the FFXIV players in our community came along. Some didn't because they didn't want to "compete" with Legacy players, some couldn't get in during the launch due to server congestion and character creation restrictions, and decided they'd rather play on another server than wait.

Sure sounds like thats a separate thing than in game, just because someone logs onto the forums, does not mean they're active in game

You were asking about alts. That's my alt detection method. It has nothing to do with activity.

Anyway. Goons had thousands of players in WoW and EVE, about 2,000 in GW2, ~500 in TERA and The Secret World; even in obscure little F2P MMOs there's usually several dozen goons playing at the minimum. We are not a small group of people, and FFXIV is not a small game.

Here is the thread from our off-SA forums that I run that explains how to get into the Free Companies. As it says in the rules, no alts. I wrote the forum software in a way that only allows people to register one character per Something Awful account (and for the uninitiated, those cost money):



I don't understand why we'd want to artificially inflate our numbers, we don't have enough slots for active players that want to play. If you care about numbers more than people, or think that there is no point to having a large group of friends other than be able to brag about it, please do not project these shortcomings on to other people.
